Wow yeah this is an old thread so it seems like it's a tried and true upgrade! Almost 10 years since the last comment! Who else has been doing this successfully? And I'm looking at getting a complete 2011 Mazda 3 2.5L engine locally for just over $500 to resurrect an '06 Mazda 3S 5-speed with a bad cylinder. I've even heard of some adding a light pressure turbo to the 2.5 without much trouble.

You turn the engine without the ignition connected to allow oil to flow the after 30 seconds of the hook it up and it fires right up. It will run rough for 50 miles or so as the ecu is adapting the fuel trims. Ha0pens when ever you disconnect the battery on these Cars. Ive put 100 miles since the swap no check engine lights and it drive great and so much more power now to. If your in denver i could help you get it done.
Do u know if this swap works with a 2004 Mazda 3i sedan? I have someone with a 2011 Fusion motor that wants to sell it to me. I would like to try this swap if you tell me it'll work?.

You'll have to search the forum for guidance on swapping to a 2004. It has been done a lot.

This is awesome! I'm super excited to do the 2.5l swap (not excited for my 2.3 to die due to rod knock, RIP Rufus), and give my Mazda 3 a new heart. Thanks so much for the write-up. I love my 06 Mazda 3, and I don't want to give him up yet. Big thanks to all the people posting about this swap.
