Trunk Release Problem

I'm having a problem with the manual trunk release in my 04 4-door Mazda 3. There is still tension in the cable, but it won't release the trunk. It opens fine with the key, so I'm assuming the cable is just stretched. Surprisingly, the part is relatively cheap, so I am planning on just replacing it myself. Has anyone had this problem or know of any potential difficulties? It seems like it should be fairly straightforward. Thanks

I feel a bit dumb now, I figured out why my trunk release wont open. Go open the trunk with the key, on the trunk itself where the release latch is it will be pulled up, all you have to do is pull down on it and it will click and bling bling money it worked.

WOW.. I am SOOOO happy that you saved me the embarassment of having to take it to the dealership. They would've grilled me good  I was planning on enquiring next time I was in for an oil change.

I didn't think it made sense that the latch could already be broken after only 10 months.

Thanks again

Yeah I'm pretty sure there's a little switch on the inside of the latch which disables the remote trunk release..... kind of like the switches that lock the back seats up.

It wasnt the remote key it was the manuel latch next to the drivers seat. Ya no problem man!!

I didn't say wireless, I said remote, as in not at the location. No Mz3's have wireless trunk release from the factory (like the Mz6), I'm talking about the lever next to the driver's seat which 'remotely' opens the trunk. Like the 'remote' fuel door release, meaning not at the fuel door.

Even so there's a switch on the inside of the trunk latch which disables the lever so that you can only get into it via the key.
