I dont have the 6 disc CD Changer or any options on my car.

But what i was understanding was that the Basic headunit? played mp3?

Is there a certain way to burn an mp3 cd? As a file CD? (Data cd) or what?

I drive an S model in case it matters.

I don;t know about which players do and don't have an MP3 player, but if yours does, then you have to burn the CD in a mp3 format. I used Roxio and there is a button and it says something like "mp3 music CD" then you have you other "copy data CD" "Audio music CD" "Data CD" ect

The base model headunit does not play mp3s.

There were/are two styles that did/do:

2004-2005 there was an option for a single cd mp3 player - NOT the standard single cd player.
2006 the optional mp3 player is a 6 disc unit.

Either way, they were optional, not standard equipment - even the optional bose system does not include the mp3 player.

And Brandon's right, any cd burning software should be able to make an mp3 cd, as long as you have the songs ripped or downloaded as mp3s. Just making a data disk and burning the mp3 files onto the disk will do it. The most important part is what the player supports. Some can read playlists, file folder structures, ID3 tags, etc.

If the device reads the files only - just burn all of the mp3 files straight to the disc.

Yes in your settings if your using WMP change the burn setting to "audio cd" instead of mp3 and it'll convert mp3's to an audio format playable on your cd player. Though of cousre the play time will be downgraded to around 80min.

If that's what your asking I wasn't 100% sure.

whenever I've made Mp3 CD's I just make a data CD and place the Mp3s on it. some I've just done with all the files in a general folder, and some I've separated into folders. I'm not sure how the mazda Mp3 player sorts through stuff though, so I can't say which is best.
