Skidplate bolts

The bolts on my 2006 Mazda 3 to the skidplate came off so the master of the estate replaced them with some from the autoparts/hardware store. Now those are gone and the skidplate is "zippy-tied" up. I called my dealer parts today to get the right ones and he said there are two kinds, a plastic screw and a plastic retainer. He could not tell me how many I need of each or where each of them went. Any body got any feed back about what exactly should be holding the skidplate on instead of zippy ties?

I can tell you that your dealer sucks!

unfortunately I cant tell you exactly how many there are (my guess would be 10-12 10mm screws holding it on there.

Zip ties will work, but are a pain to replace every time you need to drop the plate.

Technically you can run without for the time being (safer in the summer than winter) while you source the parts.

I would encourage you to post your region/location so that locals can point you towards a competent dealer, since you, obviously, arent speaking with a dealer who know's how to use the confusor.

I pulled my splash guard just the other day and counted in case I lost one.

2 plastic screws and retainers. They go in the big round holes near the leading edge corners.

7 10mm bolts. If memory serves, they're about an inch long.

Get the bolts from Home Depot or something no need to spend 30 bucks (or whatever ridiculous amount they would charge) at the dealer for bolts that should cost 18 cents each. 7 10mm flanged bolts, not machine threaded.

Advanced auto or similar. Look in their miscellaneous parts section, they aren't in bolts. You want the retainer clips and then bolts to fit them. Almost all of my retainer clips have broken because of Mazda's cheapness. I don't recall the exact name of them, but you'll see what it is you need. They are U-clips or something similar where they clip over the splash shield and then the bolt goes up through them.

Unlike Mazda's cheapness with their welded nut on clip, these are machined from a single piece so they aren't going to break over time.

As for the bolts, yes it does matter. The first part is the pitch (1 thread per mm, 1.25 threads per milimeter) the next is the length. It is probably something similar to a 10mm-1.25x20mm bolt. I'd suggest just replacing all of the clips now if they aren't broken yet, they will be and they are a HORRIBLE pain to get the spalsh shield off once they break.

I went to HomeDepot to get 10mm bolts but there are so many different 10mm bolts. Ex: 10mm-1.0x20mm, 10mm-1.25x20mm. Does it matter which 10mm bolt I get?

the first number is the legnth the 20mm is TPI threads pre inch
