Yes you can switch them with leds. Just push the housing of the license plate light towards the car then pop out the bulb and replace it with LED.

These will fit your license plate light (i know since I have them in my speed3) and are the brightest LEDs on the market.

i did search, but it didnt really help.  so youre telling me i can use a 194 bulb in there?

edit - after another search, i see that i can use 194 in my license, dome, glove box and trunk
