Is there any aftermarket head unit that supports the trip computer?

I want to upgrade my head unit to include an indash gps. I was hoping to get the motorized screen unit off ebay but waited too long for that one. Anyway the only types that appear to be available now are the units that mount in place of your headunit. However I really don't want to lose the trip computer. Anybody know of an option?

I do not have my wifes car here at work or I would post you up a video make sure we are on the same page.

If you are talking about the controls on the right hand side of the wheel that switches the trip info up on the dash, then yes the 9140 along with the wheel kit does keep the controls. The audio controls on the left hand side work as well. She hasn't lost any of her wheel controls.

Let me know if I am lost here an you are actually talking about something else. I will post a pic up from yesterday when I was driving her car doing some tests.............lol notice the range mileage left........it got down to 6m

ah - thanks for that clarification. I have a 2007. Grrrr. Thought an authorized american company finally had solved this. Caska looks cool, but I'd love to see one in action before dumping $1K on good faith. The Caska NAV maps concern me the most, and the trip computer control.

I am leaning toward this unit:http://www.caradvanced.com/products/Mazda3-Flip-Up-Digital-Touch-Screen-with-VGA%2C-Navi%2C-USB%2C-etc....html] http://www.caradvanced.com/products/Mazda3-Flip-Up-Digital-Touch-Screen-with-VGA%2C-Navi%2C-USB%2C-etc....html because I would prefer my nav to be up where I can see it easier, but I want to see pics of the GUI before I purchase. I want to know how you access the aux in's etc and if that is just through wince or if there is another GUI that runs overtop like most of these units.

I think this is the same unit that was on eBay for awhile but it might not be as the eBay one listed bluetooth functionality and had a GUI.

The trip functions, LCD screen, and steering wheel controls work on the Caska, and if you dont like the navigation that it comes with you can get iGo or Tomtom or at least half a dozen other GPS programs.

If you know of any Youtube videos, or demos that show the trip computer cycling while someone is pushing a button, like the one in this thread, that would be great (regarding the Caska, that is.)

I will take a look around, but I will post a video when my caska unit comes in in a few weeks if i cannot find one :)

Great - that's been the only thing holding me back from buying a Kenwood or Pioneer, etc - the integration headaches. If the steering wheel controls, temperature and trip computer are all functional, it would feel so much more robust. I wonder why no one is distributing these in the US, other than the obvious suspicion - patent infringement or lack of CSA requirements. Nonetheless, this looks like a great unit, especially with iPod control, DVD and GPS (although I'm not holding my breath on that). We all await your report with baited breath.
PS - where's the best place to order one from that you've found, and is the faceplate silver or black to your knowledge?

Personally, I hardly ever look at any of it, other than 'average mpg'. That's definitely my preference, but its nice knowing that you are able to switch it at all, but it wouldnt be a deal breaker for me if i had to leave it on 'average mpg'

The LCD working, period, and the steering wheel controls are more important to me, which is why i waited to get the Caska from a GB on another forum.

I didnt find any video to prove that it works. Mine is still somewhere in Motherland China.

As promised.. working trip computer video:

MOV00612.MPG

The buttons arent really that loud, I am just pressing them harder to show you when I press it. There is a small lag between the button press and when the LCD actually shows the next trip computer setting, but its barely noticable and never a problem.

completely fantastic! and I see it's the cool blue interface - very nice. Have you tried playing any video from your iPod? also - if you can recommend the seller one way or the other, that would be helpful. If you don't want to post comments here then you can private message me on that info. First impressions seem tasty - lots to learn, eh?

did you get the TPMS, or any of the options?

Those options were only available if all of the units had them. In other words, EVERYONE would have had to pay extra for TPMS and/or the parking assistant. It wasnt selective. I plan on getting a small backup camera anyway, just to have the option.
