I wanted to point out improper and proper way of installing the pad onto the piston.

Pic 1 is the New Brake Pad showing the 3 springs.
Pic 2 is the IMPROPER way to install. Notice the top spring between the back of the pad and the piston.
Pic 3 is the PROPER way to install. Notice the top spring on the lip of the piston.

Thanks so much for this guide. I got halfway through this and got stuck when I had to compress the piston. I rented the specialty tool from the auto parts store but the piston wouldn't budge. I see now I should have bled the valve or unscrewed the cap off the master cylinder.
BTW, did anyone else find it difficult to unscrew the 7mm hex guide pins? I think I had different size hex keys (inches instead of mm) which is why I had so much trouble.

Tried searching the site, no joy. Anyone know where I can find instructions on how to do a rear brake job on a 2017 Mazda 3 Touring sedan 2.0L Manual Trans with Electronic Parking Brake? Took in for 22.5K service and dealer said rear brakes are down to 10%. Wanted $400 for new rotors and pads. Asked if I've heard noise. I have not and brakes seem fine when driving. Traded my 2014 3 in for this 2017 with the factory brakes still like new at 30K miles. Anyway it seems there is not much info out there on Mazda 3 with EPB. I've done a hundred brake jobs in my life, but never with EPB. Any help appreciated.

The electronic emergency brake - just don't enable it for the rear brake pad replacement.
