Hacking the Info Display

So I haven't seen anyone discuss this yet, just wondering if it's possible. I have a 2006 s Touring HB. I notice that the more expensive s Grand Touring model has automatic climate control, a trip computer, and some other niceties, the details of which would be shown on the information display. If I look closely at my display (on the Touring model) I see it has all the icons/words of the Grand Touring model's display, but obviously they aren't being used in my model. I'm guessing that most or all the hardware to display this stuff is installed on the Touring model as well, though the dash button says "Set" rather than "Info". Does anyone know of a way to hack the info display to get it to show the trip computer information (gas mileage, miles to empty, interior temp, etc)???

I know this has been discussed on here but I can't find the thread about it. It's here somewhere.

Everyone agreed that there is no way of changing what's on the to begin with. Also, if you have the 2006 Touring, don't you have the gas mileage, miles to empty and a few other features on your display that came stock? I thought several people on the forum said that it comes standard with most 2006's.

well, there's a 2000-post long thread just trying to get outside temp display on pre-06, so you might have to wait before they figure out how to do the rest.... considering the display has been the same from day1, the process will likely be the same for 06 non-GT and pre-06

Another thought along the same lines..... Has anyone figured out how to make the stereo say something other than "hello" when starting up. Obviously it's possible since the sp23's say "bose audio". I know someone brought this up awhile ago but haven't seen anything on it for some time.

There's got to be a way to change the greeting...a simple text change. There's some sort of interface box the dealer has that connects to the car's computer. You probably need that to do a greeting change. I noticed there's a service bulletin that tells the dealer how to turn off the seat belt reminder chimes permanently using this box, so I'm sure it has tons of other capabilities.

But I'm surprised there isn't some "simple" way of fooling the info display into showing you mpg and other info (or at least fooling the "Set" button into thinking it's an "Info" button). You know, like hold down the Set button for 10 seconds while turning the ignition on, then alternately press the Clock button and Set button four times...something crazy like that.
