Driver's window won't roll down

I did a search on this, and found posts about the one touch feature, and about tinted windows, but nothing about the issue I'm having.

I got to my car this afternoon (no tint on my windows), after it had been sitting in the sun all day and was hot inside. Got in, started the car, and tried to roll down the driver's window, but it wouldn't roll down. All the others rolled down no problem. I've never had a problem with it before, in fact I rolled it down this morning before I left.

Sometimes there is a noise associated with pushing the switch that isn't the switch itself - a clicking noise that happens before the switch itself clicks. This seemed to happen once the car cooled down inside a bit via the AC. Before that, the only noise was the sound of the switch itself clicking.

Any ideas on what isn't working here? I assume the two elements at play are the switch and the motor, but I don't have experience with working on/fixing power windows, as I've never had them before.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Does it sound like the window is trying to roll down but is stuck, or does it act as if the switch isn't connected to anything? Sometimes in winter my window seals will freeze up and it'll freeze the window closed. The rubber in the window seals may be getting sticky in the summer heat and causing the same symptom.

The heat must have been it, because I just went out to get some dinner and after a try or two it came down. Weird. Guess I'll have to be a little more careful.

if you are getting a black residue sticking to your window (from the rubber seal) you might try treating that with some sort of conditioner to prevent this (has come up a couple times - window sticking to the seal).
