This thing is astonishing!!!

200 hp from a 2.0 turbo with direct injection derived from Le Mans...its a first in any street legal car.

There is no turbo lag at all.....if you are above 1,000 rpm and you tap the throttle the response is immediate.

Extremly thight body and suspension...corners very well.

At low speeds everything is very smooth...feels like a Buik...however, increase the speed and everything tightens and feels like a proper Audi.

In a word, I loved this car....but at a base price of $34,000 canadian clams...it is just too over-priced...you pay a pretty coin and you dont even have quattro. If you want the quattro you have to go to the six engine and that is even more expensive...and dont forget that you are getting a hatch after all.

Nevertheless, if I had the money I would take the plundge because being rational is boring.

Any thoughts?

Let's see if Audi has done anything about their build quality issues. It's a great car for now, but how long will it be before we start seeing problems? It just isn't worth it to buy an Audi. Your Mazda 3 will last a lot longer.

I like it. It seems a little big to be cosidered a sport hatch and kinda has that "lets go to soccer practice" look IMO. How are Audi's in the quality/reliability department seeing how they are Vee Dubs?

I have to say I really like this car too. But the main selling point for me is the DSG gearbox.

I was told by the dealer at the carshow that the 2.0T would be available with quattro for about CAN$41,000? But then again, dealers usually know less than the average people on the street.

I hope you guys can see the pics...

For me actually, when I first saw the car, I was not impressed...however, when I drove it and each time I see it again, its kinda growing on me.

My dealer only had the 6 speed manual...I also wanted to try the DSG but, its not here yet...

And yes, they are expensive as I mentioned before, but it is an Audi after all. Understated sport and luxury.

However, I think that the golf GTI looks much meaner and is much cheaper....since both have the same engine/transmission choices...but dont have Quattro, I think the GTI will be great value!

I cant wait till that gets to our shores, but I dont think we will be getting the 5 door version....I thinks its only the 3 door body style.

25k...
hmm...
so, about 10k more than mazda3...

closer to $29,585 by the time add HID, leather, autorain/lights, boso, etc. compared to 20.5 on SP23, i will live with 40hp difference. Especially after audi/vw got 4 out of 10 places on 10 poorest reliability cars list this year.

PS: apparently they really do need all those repairs -- at my audi / mazda dealer, there's three service booths for audi, and one for mazda, even though mazda sells way more cars than audi.

I drove an A3 a week before they were to go on sale officialy in the U.S. a month or two ago. The DSG transmission is the real deal. It was nothing short of amazing! I can now see why all the auto writers go on and on about it. With that said, the model I drove stickered at $31k! :eh:

I couldn't help to think that the Mazda3 (hatchback in particular) was the poor man's (or smart man's really) Audi A3. The A3 is really a nice piece of machinery, but the $10k premium over the M3 and worrisome Audi reliability, make me nervous.

It's seems I shall end up with a Mazda3 5 door!

Its a Volkswagen. Right down to the engine and VWs and I will never ever get along again after the issues I went through w. my '97 Golf. The high cost can be chalked up the to fact that they come from Germany and the Euro is high as hell compared to the dollar right now. Interior is nice though, standard Audi, right down to the red accents.
