TCM repair (G7 Computers)

Hello,
I have a 2010 2.5L hatch with auto that gave the CEL and AT lights a week or so ago. 229k mi. Stuck in 3rd. Hard lurch when shifting into gear. U0101 (Lost Communication with TCM)

Reading around I assumed that this was the typical TCM failure. I sent it off to G7 Computers in NY. Their reply was “There was a software failure on the board, so the unit did not need to be opened because the hardware all tested OK.” and also basically replace everything else or it could cause the fault again.
Admittedly, I didn’t diagnose anything else but am leery of plug it in and see for reasons above. But also half questioning if I just paid $250 to get my same computer back. (Ripped off?) G7 has good reviews, but does software failure hardware ok sound right? Anyone else have experience with G7 or anyone else? Did you have success with repaired TCM? Should I just try a new TCM orcheck for something else before I plug in this reprogrammed TCM?

Thoughts?
Thanks y’all.

Mine is the 2.5L with AT (2010) PN L539-18-9E1F. As I understand it, the last letter is a rev change. It's the rest of the PN that is critical to match. FWIW, G7 Computers did send me a full refund today (he also offered to take other look at it). I offered to let him keep his shipping expense, so he didn't actually lose money, but he sent the entire thing. Hopefully, the new TCM will take care of it.

I used G7 and had the exact same thing and same report. They stated we did not need to open it up. I was like hmmm. Anyhow it worked for less than a mile. They eventually refunded my money after some discussion. I got a brandy new one from my local dealer, but had to order online for a much better price.

If you look at Mazda dealers online you can get a brandy new one for ~500 bucks. Not free, but not horrible. If you drive the car for another month, you will be even figuring car payments are 400+/month depending on many factors. At this point in your cars life, it will probably outlast the car. Just something to think about.

I got a new one from Jake Sweeney Mazda, he is local to me, but I had to order online to get the "good" price. Plug and play.

G7 guys can't seem to get it done in my experience, of course, others may have gotten theirs fixed just fine.

benniboo87, in case you don't realize it, you responded to a thread started by someone with TCM issues who has a 2010 2.5L. You didn't say what year and model you have, so one would assume you have the same. But, perhaps not. You should clarify what you have.

If that is a photo of your TCM, It seems you may have a 2010 or 2011 Mazda 3 2.0L based on this:

That link shows compatibility with 2010 and 2011 2.0L. The latest revision if G. I'd look at wrecked Mazda 3 2.0L and find a LF8M-18-9E1F or LF8M-18-9E1G from a donor or buy a new one from Mazda.
