just leave it on unless the dealer is SUPER anal or something.

 

You can try calling the dealer and ask them how they feel about the intake when you take it in for service. Whether or not they mind.

That's what I did with my Mazdaspeed CAI. I asked them if there would be an issue if I took my car in for service with it on and if it would affect any warranty issues. Service consultant said it would not be an issue. Than again, this is with the Mazdaspeed CAI. It may be different with your intake.

 

I can empathize with you being lazy, but it will take you 5 to 10 minutes to replace the stock air box. The old adage, "it is better to be safe than sorry", probably applies here.

 

I would leave it on. If they say something about it, tell them you still have the stock box and it will go back on the car for future service appointments. Just curious, have you waited all 7500 miles to do an oil change?

The 7500 mile service doesn't include replacing the air filter, so they won't care. If you brought it in for, say, the 30k service with a CAI, they would probably tell you that they can't service it for you (clean/reoil) in place of dropping in a new filter element like they usually do for the stock intake system at that time. An intake is just an intake, they won't have any problems doing other maintenance on the car (oil change, lube, etc) with it installed. Just leave it and don't worry

I was wondering the same thing. I will be doing my third oil change at 7500 miles.

 

I'm at 6k and have not changed the oil. Probably should have I know. I am getting the service done early for a road trip.

Edit: forgot to mention the oil still looks brand new, that's the main reason I waited.

 

i left mine on for my oil change and a couple other services, they never mentioned it.

You should do a UOA of the oil. It may look brand new but I would be very nervous about running dino oil for 6k miles in this engine.

I left mine on when going in for routine work. No problems at all. I agree that it is a great feeler for how the dealership will react to mods. If they throw a fit - it's just an intake and you can tell them you'll be going back to stock (and find a new dealer once you have more mods). If they don't care - you're all set :lol:

If they were dicks and said something about voiding your warranty, could they right then? Obviously if they were just being assholes and griping, I would just take it somewhere else next time, just curious how far they COULD take it if the mood hit them right?

Mine looked brand new on the dipstick too, but fairly nasty when I drained it. And that was at only ~2200 miles. I can only imagine what it would be like at 6000 miles.

They can't void the entire warranty except in pretty extreme cases. In general, they can only reject warranty claims due to modifications that DIRECTLY RELATE to the problem. Example 1: you have 300-lb springs and you blow a factory strut in a month; obviously not covered, and for good reason. Example 2: you have a SRI and your window regulator fails; definitely still covered, and they can't give you any trouble for it.

 

^ And that's the impression I've always worked up (warranty only void when a specific non-OEM part causes the issue), just curious as to how big of a dickhead they could be. haha

Of course, I've been known to be one too, it seems they really don't like it when you take your "discussion" about their BS into their showroom, they negotiate a lot better in that situation.

 

I hate my stealership with a passion. I had a CAI on my mazda6 3 years ago for a recall and they threatend to void my entire warranty over it. I literally said, "fuck you" and threw a copy of the moss morison act, which i kept in my map pocket, at the service manager, and then demanded to speak to the GM.
