OK Eonon...what is the problem. I've waited 2 weeks for an answer as to why the new img file does not recognize on the new head unit. I finally get an answer and it is to install the image with the 4.2 Android!!!!???? This is no joke. How can you recommend that I install the 4.2 version of android when I purchased the new unit for the 5.1 Android. Where is the logic in that? When I purchased the first head unit a couple years ago, you all provided great customer service. What has happened since then? If this new image is not being recognized by my new unit and I've tried multiple SD card, that work every where else, then clearly I have a defective unit. You priotiry should be to help me fix it, not to downgrade it.

#310 ·
I actually downgraded my unit to 4.4 and it was quite a bit faster than 5.1. It's stupid though. What's the point of buying a 5.1 unit for the "upgrade" if you're gonna downgrade.

Problem is if you have a newer GA6163F it uses a MTCD mother board which from what I know, does NOT support 4.4/4.2. Only 5.1

My GA6163f was an older one, so it was a MTCC motherboard which supports 4.4.

That could be why your unit is not recognizing the 4.2 image. Probably not a defective unit, probably just silly customer support

Hi davidgotmilk, currently we are not sure when the 2GB units will come out, thanks.

I installed the latest software update that you sent me (and also wiped the unit to make sure it's factory-fresh). There is basically no difference in speed of the unit. In real world-use (i.e. more than 1 app running) it slows down to a crawl (i.e. very slow). It does not match your video at all... Maybe you should try running Google Maps or Waze with Radio playing and Torque in the background - I am sure that is a very common use for most users. Software is obviously not optimized enough - quad-core should have no problem dealing with 2-3 apps at once... How do you plan on addressing this since many other users here in the forum report this same thing?
Hi mazdilak, we have tested the case you mentioned running 2-3 apps at once, but there's no lag issue on the test unit. It does not happens to every customer. We will send you a PM with advice later. Thanks!

Not only that, but Eonon rep here has consistently claimed, in the face of clear evidence to the contrary, that they mfr their own units/parts etc. When you look at the serial/part #s they are Klyde part#s that are clearly sourced. I think I even read someone claiming to have spoken to someone at Kylde who said that Eonon sourced the units from them (unverifiable). But, you won't get them to admit to that (at least I haven't seen it).

Just contact Klyde directly and ask about a 2gb variation. Go straight to the horses mouth.

Their company images on various Chinese trade websites show assembly lines of 10s to 20 workers, but I'm not sure how accurate the images are and could be stock photography to communicate a better image. They may assemble some of the accessory parts like harnesses and the stock fit dash panels to the Klyde base units. But we'll never know for sure unless someone visits them and gets a facility tour.

#315 ·
Looking at Klyde website, they already created a 2gb model for a Toyota ravager, so I can only hope they start manufacturing mazda models!

Looks like it also comes with android 6.0

And an octocore CPU!

And everything is clearly sourced from Klyde. I have opened the unit it self since I'm past warranty anyway, and all the parts clearly say Klyde on them.

@.Slug, regarding the service, after the holidays, we will deal with you guys' case much faster, thanks for your feedback. And I've sent the message to the related member instantly after I replied to this thread, nearly no delay. Sometimes we communicate with customers via message for the consideration of their privacy or special requirements, and sending a message can draw more of their attention. But no matter in which manner, our goal is to provide better assistance to each customer. Hope you understand. We will listen to your advice and improve our service to be even better in the future, thanks!
@davidgotmilk, for the customers bought from our official site, if the 1st time you reported the issue to us within 60 days of delivery, they can still get 60-day money back or free return guarantee. But since you bought from our reseller, not sure about their policy, but you can still get in touch with him to ask for more information, thanks!

many months later, and constant battles with this head unit, i'm ready to toss it off the top of the empire state building. i don't have the patience to deal with it anymore. the screen sucks, 1GB memory isn't enough to run a second app simultaneously, the cpu is throttled so it never hits its full speed, shifting into reverse sometimes doesn't trigger my backup camera, when it does sometimes it makes the screen go black until i hit the home button, something as simple as changing the volume can have a 5 second delay. CHANGING THE FREAKING VOLUME MAN. THE MOST BASIC FUNCTION. I checked xda for the people who fitted 2GB ram chips onto the rockchip but i ain't about that life.

i don't know what to do anymore. i still have my android 4 dual core head unit. i'll probably attempt the sound mod and swap the cpu board from this one to the old one. or just go with an actual name brand for 4x the money. i've basically spent the price of a brand name radio across 4 half assed eonon radios and still don't have anything even half way decent.

I did the sound mod and it sounds a lot better. But I also have after market speakers and a sub. The sound mods EQ has a lot better bands to adjust. Took awhile to get the mod working because of how small the pieces are I kept messing up.

But if you have the MTCC version of the GA6163f you can install a 4.4 rom and it's a lot faster. Those two things basically saved the unit for me, but I still have a dim screen and trying to find a replacement screen.

Problem is I don't know if it's the screen or the screen controller that is causing the dimness. I wish someone with a MTCD version could tell me their mobo version so I can if it was an updated controller or the screen they sent me was crap

@luck11 & GearHd6, I can understand your thoughts, please don't worry, Eonon has 15 year history and we have been on forum for 7 years, we will try our best to help every customer to resolve their issues. Like I said before, we contact the customer personally because we want to provide better one-to-one service and protect our customer’s privacy. For pankey, we have confirmed with him some detailed information, and then provide him a software to upgrade today. Thanks for your understanding!

About 2GB RAM head units you’re concerning, we’re developing it now, but not sure when it will be released. You can just stay tuned here, thanks!

High volume and static

I just installed my unit and everything seems to be working OK. One issue I have is when listening to the radio, the volume at its lowest setting (volume = 1) is still relatively loud. It is fine with bluetooth because I can lower the volume from my phone, but with the radio I don't see anyway to lower it.

The other issue is with an underlying static across all audio sources (radio and bluetooth). It isn't overly loud, but it is noticeable in the background of the music playing.

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback with the Bose package.

Anyone else having these issues or know a solution?

@eonon come on the 2gb upgrade is not related to firmware. It's a hardware upgraded, and it's a difficult upgrade to do the fact it's SMD soldering, but it's not nearly impossible nor is it firmware. It's a well documented upgrade done by multiple people with the same units we have. I think your tech has confused what hardware and firmware mean.

Hi davidgotmilk, thanks for your reminder! I apologize for my mistake, it has nothing to do with our tech actually! Yes what our tech and I mean is hardware, not firmware(which is equivalent to software). Thanks for your reminder, I’ll express more clearly in the future! :)

Hey @eonon i think for the next go around make a kick ass product that fixs the porblums with this one like a better and brighter screen and fast rom and processer and good sound quality im pretty sure ppl wont mind paying a bit more for a good product o and add apple car play
Hi Jestin25, our current GA6163F is already with brighter screen and good sound quality. 2GB RAM unit will be in the future. But currently it’s not possible to make the Apple Car Play units due to patent issue. Hope you understand, thanks.

Thanks for the reply. That helped the volume issue. FYI it wasn't a choice to choose a percentage (I.e. no 25% option) but instead was a choice of + or - certain number of dB. I chose -19 dB which was the lowest option possible.

It didn't help the static issue though.
Hi dudragon, about the static issue, I’ll PM you to know the Email, order details, and help you further, thanks!

One more question.
I can't get the mirrorlink to work with my phone. It says communication with the phone failed. My phone switches to driving mode when I do this, but it doesn't seem like it is being recognized fully by the head unit.
I have Android 7.1 on my phone, so I'm not sure if that's the issue. I saw you said it is only compatible through Android 6. If that's the case, when will Android 7+ be supported since this is standard with the new android devices? Any work around to get it working in the mean time?

#341 ·
Hi dudragon, yes the Mirrorlink of our Android 5.1 unit can only work with smart phones with Android 4.2 to 6.0 system, can't work with Android 7 phones. But we are working on a new software which can support this, and now it's under testing. And the mirrorlink software itself will be updated too. Once it's worked out, we can send it to you afterwards. We'll inform you guys once the software is available. Thanks!

I would like to know how do I root the GA6163F, cause I need to edit the following file:

/data/data/com.here.app.maps/shared_prefs/GeneralPreferences.xml

I tried to use Root Master app to root it, but it prompt "do not need root", then I tried to use RSexplorer to open upper file, it prompt I need to root first.

Any idea?

#347 ·
The latest 5.1 update is un-rootable. You need to downgrade the 5.1 version to earlier one, downgrade to 4.4 or use a pre-rooted rom. All these are available on XDA forums under the android auto section under their respected MTCC/MTCD sub sections.

You must determine your mother board type (MTCC/MTCD) before proceeding with any time of version upgrades/downgrades.

^ probably on sale cause new units are coming I assume.

I already see the px5 android devices on aliexpress. They feature android 6.0, 8 core processor, and 2gb of ram.

They already have mazda 3 units out as well, but probably won't be the ones Eonon receives, and I don't think they're from klyde.

Eonon already has on their website the android 6.0 series starting to roll out for mazda 6. And surprisingly... with 1gb of ram still, so I don't have high hopes of getting 2gb on the android 6.0 units for mazda 3.

Might just order the other brand from Ali express

Well...I finally had it with all the issues. I reached out to the seller, from Amazon, and explained my situation. Luckily, they agreed to allow me to return it for a full refund, even though I had the unit for almost 4 months. I went back to the previous model I had, which is not perfect, but worked better than this new model. I don't think I'll be in the market for another one of these until they can get 2GB of RAM on it. It's also time to start looking at another seller. Eonon has been nice and responsive, but this new head unit is NOT an upgrade from their previous model. I would hope that future units have better quality control done on them and actually live up to the words their marketing department so cleverly put together. On another note, the folks in this forum have been extremely helpful. If anyone see that head unit out there with the features we all want, please share.

#354 ·
Hi perezj30, thanks for your compliment to our service! About 2GB RAM unit, we're working on it but not sure when it will be released. Our head units have strict quality control, they need to pass 131 tests before releasing, you can see more details here: Strict 131 Quality Tests - About Eonon Few items may have little defect, but it's normal for electronic products. Hope you understand. Most important is, we can provide solid warranty and great support to guarantee you. Thanks a lot! :)
