how do you take off the whole light fixture on the overhead compartment?

 

IIRC pull at the side where the switch is and it will pop off. Its held in there somewhat snug with retaining clips.

Did a light burn out?

Just put a flat head screwdriver in the gap between the headliner and pry it down. There are clips along the sides so dont pull too hard or you'll break them.

i used my fingers... it sucked, but you get a better feel for when youre about to snap the clips...

The clips holding the light in are at the sides.... so prying in the middle just damages the the headliner without releasing the clips.

Use your fingernails to pull the housing to one side of the car to relieve some pressure on one of the clips and while keeping the sideways pressure pull down on that same side. The housing will pop right out.

 

i cannot get my dome light back on, any advise?

 

it may not be lined up properly. or..... i hope you didnt break any clips....
