Basically I went into Firestone today to get a oil change and a tire rotation and they pulled me out onto the floor to show me that the last people who changed the oil (Valvoline) stripped the thread and now their biggest plug 14 1/2 wont even fit into it. Valvoline is saying that this happens to every car and is considered general maintenance and they admit they strip a lot of threads thats why it is not a big deal and to just bring it in and they will tap and dye it. Firestone said since I have the aluminum pan this would be a very bad idea to tap it, as well as the fact that since a 14 1/2 bolt wont even fit and that is the biggest bolt they have it would be a bad idea just to make it bigger. So it looks like I basically need a new oil pan and Firestone quoted $950.40 for the part and labor.
I guess the main thing I am wondering is it a bad idea to tap and dye it under the current circumstances? So I will have to get a new oil pan?
Thanks
