Mazda3 2.0 MT, Al wheel, 1CD with 6 speakers, Man Air Con, sold 139,800 RMB in China. It's about 18,000US$!

But Jetta 5 is sold from 19,000$ with only 1.6L engine~~~

You are lucky Americans!

How much of what you pay on that car is tax though? And what is the average salary in your country?

I know in the UK that cars are more, but it has a lot to do with the VAT and also the salaries are typically higher in the UK.

In China, consume tax is included in the price of car. But when you buy car you have to pay additional 8.5% tax as Vehicle Buy tax.

And most of the Mazda3 owner have about 100,000RMB(13,000us$) income one year.

But you guy's got more power though...

they detune usdm motors for the damn treehuggers...
[/quote]

Huh? De-tune USDM motors? Typically cars sold in CA and other 'clean air' states make less HP due to stricter emission standards in those states, requiring PZEV vehicles.

How much HP does the 2.3l put out in other markets?

Yes, but these figures aren't comparable. The JDM engines are rated with JIS, and USDM with the SAE guidlines. Mazda didn't change the engine from 160 hp to 156 hp, it's because of the new SAE rev 8/04. It makes the same power as before, but the way it is rated is different. Take an '04 model and it will rate the same.

Similarly, the JIS and DIN ratings are probably different than the SAE ratings. The only way to see if there was indeed a discrepancy is to rate a USDM engine using the JIS guidelines, or vice versa. If they really did go to the extra expense of changing an engine for the two markets just to have less power, why isn't there an easy way to change it back to JDM tune?

LOL
you should see the prices in latin america for mazda (Costa Rica actually)

I just got a mazda 3 sedan 2007 (the "basic edition") that has:
-engine 1.6
- 15" "wheels" actually metal ugly things with plastic covers (thats another way to name it, lol)
-It has disk breaks ONLY on the front wheels (so it has drums brakes or shoe brakes on the rear ones)
-the interior is kind of cheap quality
-only one air bag on the drivers place
-and without: fog lights, CD changer, wheel controls, air bag for passengers, and any other cool feature

the price: $23,800

and for the "GT" (GT latin america) version you get:
-a 2.0 engine
-"real wheels" at least
-wheels controls, brake disk on the 4 wheels
-and air bag on the passanger seat (so now you passenger wont die on an accident lol)

For ONLY: $29,800

and obviously they don't sell cars like the RX-8, CX-7 or CX-9 and none of the MazdaSpeed versions

*in case you want to know why we have so... great prices (yeah sure haha) its because theres a Tax for the Cars that is %100 for a new car, so if you buy a lets say an RX-8 for $30,000 you have to pay another $30,000 for taxes and u get your RX-8 of $60,000
