Diagnosis isn't good... :( Looking for a clean, 2.3 short long block for my '04 Mz3.

Updated. Engine worse that I had thought, need a full long block shipped to 45424.

F2 FTW! Please close.

Who's F2? And what can they do for me on the cheap?

I popped a P0011 error code on Monday. Heard valve chatter and shut it down. I ended up limping it over to the dealership. They re-shimmed the timing chain and replaced the oil return ($1214) and now say there is rod knock and want to replace the engine ($4500). Needless to say I don't have $4500 to pay them to do it. So I'll have to pull it and rebuild a short block at home.

Bump, shop is waiting to do the swap.

shop doing it or you? if its you just a heads up on timing. you will need to get the mazda timing tools (pff, its really just a bar and a bolt, so if you grab the specs go buy it from a hardware store).

that is.. unless it comes pre-assembled and timed of course. just a heads up on your end :)

It looks like F2 is going to get me a short block the fastest/cheapest. I'll give them a heads up.
