Can someone tell me what the item is inside the red circle? Its seems to be leaking a bit and I'd like to replace it. Is the replacement a pain in the butt?

Not 100% sure, but looks like OCV (oil control valve), it redirects oil according to variable timing of intake valves. If you search for ocv leak, i found on other forums themes for it as well.

VVT (Variable Valve Timing) solenoid. There is a gasket around it. You pretty much need to remove the valve cover to deal with this appropriately. Scale of 1-10 in difficulty? About a 3-4.
