1.) as i could read out in the whole forum, you have a strong competition between mazda and honda in NA?!

so how about feeling on honda?
do you really dislike the brand, or is it just some kind of nagging?
i mean, in europe japanese cars are way too uncommon that there even cant be something like a rivalry...we jap-fans have to stay together against the german retardeness.

and IF there is a hard dislikeness or rivalry on honda...why?

2.)
i read often you guys are aginst that riceboy thingy...i mean for sure its stupid to put stickers on a car when u dont have that part inside....like the thingy with that person of riceboy.com with his prelude NON-vtec. THATS GEEKY AS HELL!!!
but to tune a car with big spoilers and lowering it, and turbocharge it...
THATS MY LIFE!!! so how do you think about that?

thanks for responses...

they are just underpowered really

i owned a civic for 2 years and well its was just slow, i think people dislike them because everybody and their dog has one around here.
ya i would say its just a general dislike for Hondas blandness overall... they have had some wicked cars, we all know they can perform really well but just generally they are bland (like Toyota). They also tend to be a little more expensive (like Toyota) and the dealerships seem to have an air of cockiness about them in that their cars have the reputation of being more reliable and better screwed together than anybody else. Good for them that they have earned that rep but dont rest on your laurels or look down your nose.
I find that Mazda owners are alot like VW owners, a bit of a fringe product, with a strong cult following and definitely not mainstream... its human nature to rebel against the norm, and right now Honda is the norm when it comes to compact cars.

And as for the rice thing, well there are different levels of it but generally the mods/stickers need to be done tastefully, don't change something on your car for the sake of changing it when it actually looks worse than stock. And yes i know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but if yur gonna brag about your mods and show them off to the world on the net, then get ready for lots of opinions.

Not rice, because your alterations are tastefully done IMO, but if you had a 3 ft black wing to go with the black rims, then YES that would be rice :( Clean, tasteful/not garish is what I like to see. And you kept the stock tailights, good job!! :)

exactly, thats a nice looking civic... no stickers, no big huge wing... and a nice shoot location!
civics are nice cars and so are mazda, but since we are on the mazda forums, we probably be a little biased
@slalom: wow. i didnt know that there is so many hondas around in NA.
in my country and the rest of middle europe the most selled car is def. vw golf!

@birdy: but what do u mean by underpowered. just think about integra, rsx type s etc...?

IMO mazda is a religion for me. and the best thing ever happened to me was that a mazda dealer came into my bar im working in, and became one of my best guests. so...i get some damn good conditions. :D

@all: whats wrong on huge wings, as long as they fit to the car???..

stay tuning.
The Honda Civic was the best selling car in Canada for the past few years though I heard the Protege took that over last year. I personally don't care about the Civic because the interiors are chinzy and overall for what they charge you don't get a lot of bang for your buck, a bit of a bland car overall really.

The car above is a nice example of a well done car. It could even use some aftermarket tail lenses (if not outlandish) and you could do a wing but I'd suggest something pretty subtle though I think it looks better without a wing personally.

Big wings aren't necessarily all that bad in every case but quite often wings are chosen that are simply too big or just don't match the car at all. Much like that 2.5' tall sheet metal wing I saw a couple weeks ago on an Acura TSX.

I think he was referring to the the majority or Civics sold here, which have little more that 100hp.

They serve absolutely no purpose on front-drive cars, particularly if they are only to be used for drag-racing.

Wings are there to provide downforce, presumably to stabilize handling at sustained high-speeds (125mph+), and to 'keep the power down' under high-speed cornering.

On a front-drive car which is going to be used to drag race, they do three things:
1. Add unwanted weight.
2. Increase drag.
3. Look ridiculous.
I liked honda back in the early 90's, then Acura started to make it's mark on me (still a honda). Now, about the only one I care for is the Acura RSX, and even that's not much for me.

@trolldrengi: Technically there is for sure NO use on a frontwheel car.
but its about the style. IMO that white civic shown here looks very boring. the only thing i like is the red brake calipers.
the rims are way too small, its not lowered enough, and it DEFENITELY NEEDS A SPOILER.
but thats just my opinion so, as already thousand times said: tastes are different.

just to give an image what i think is really good tuning:

just damn sexy!

I still dislike the neons though.
Overkill = rice.

when you go overboard with mods... such as HUGE wings, rediculous body kits, unpainted body kits, putting badges that dont belong there or badges from a different car, stickers.. if not sponsored, etc etc.
hhaah i think we should start a sticky where people can post their mods and our family can vote Rice or Nice! hahaa....okay ill shut up now..=D

Feeling for Honda? They are starting to use name recognition to sell cars and not new designs or overall quality. Its a lot like Sony. Their products have gone down the tubes in the past 10 years. My mom still has TVs from the early 80s from them, but had a TV from the mid 90s that already went dead. My mom has also always owned Hondas. Her 90 Accord was MUCH better built than her 99 Civic. The Civic feels like its going to be blown away by a stiff wind.

Another reason for not liking Honda: everyone owns one and everyone tries to make them a sports car. You can only add so many upgrades to a Civic before it doesn't give you more speed and power. And there are the general annoyances such as air plane wings for spoilers and fart cans for mufflers. What's the point of a spoiler like that on a front wheel drive car???

Overall, I hate the rice thing. Fast and Furious entails everything I hate about cars and the people who droves those cars. Let's overglorify cars that are have more mods for appearance than actual performance. While we're at it, let's throw in a sound system that is a lot of power to crappy subs.

Must control anger...

To me that Red car shown Mr. Fuzzles is right on that border of being garish. The wing is just on my barely acceptable mark, the body kit is a bit much for me personally.

The first car is not too bad though.
I think the easiest way for me to sum up rice is this:

"The addition of mods which make a car appear much faster/sportier than it is (or ever will be)."

I would never put parts on a car which I thought would signifigantly increase weight and drag without some kind of direct performance boost to make it worthwhile.

Spoilers can be done tastefully, or entirely absurd.

Some cars were never meant to be sports cars... but their owners appear to be in denial about it.
If you have more than two base colors on your car, it's rice. Two is even pushing it.
