Went to the dealer today...

I went to Signature Mazda (Richmond, BC, Canada) today and asked about Mazda3. The guy said there will be some models coming in end of this month for demos. He also just got the news today and told me that the final release has been delayed to February next year. But I heard from other sources that it's gonna be only 25 cars for sale before end of the year and some more are coming in on February. Dunno which one is right.

Guys, better start praying that they don't delay it til February.

The dealers don't know squat about the Mazda 3 (atleast from what I've been asking people).

But then again, it does seem possible that they'll postpone the release date.
It's possible if they still want to continue selling the Protege5. It's gonna be discontinued.
Dealers have no idea. I called one back in March of '02 to ask about the MazdaSpeed Protege and they thought I was talking about a 5-speed Protege. They had NO idea what MazdaSpeed was. Pathetic.
I'm a network technician of many dealers and asked about the mazda3 today.

They told me they'd get it at the end of november 03, and they just did many test-roads a few days before.

About two or three weeks ago when I was making calls to local Mazda dealers to inquire about specs and pricing (before the details came out on Mazda's website) I spoke to one dealer who also had no idea what I was talking about. Thankfully it was solely through e-mail correspondence and I didn't have to deal with the idiot responsible over the phone or in person. The most amusing part was when I came out and essentially called the person a moron for not even knowing what their upcoming products were. A woman from the dealership (who apparently wasn't even a salesperson???) wrote me back saying that they had no idea what I was talking about, but to stay tuned to www.mazdausa.com for details. And yes, the website already had information on the 3 there for several weeks, and this woman told me, in so many words, that she'd heard nothing about a new Mazda and that consumers "generally find out information before the dealers do". Yes, we're a crafty, stealthy bunch, us consumers! We're SO in-the-know! How do we get our super secret information so fast? Oh yeah, we read publicly available information on www.mazdausa.com and see info on a new car! How cunning of us!

She actually told me to "stay tuned to the website for news", to which I wrote a responding e-mail saying "um, yes, I know the website and have read it, unlike you apparently, else you'd know what it was I was talking about ... it's right there on the front page that you just told me to go look at, and it's been there for several weeks. You're so quick to defer information yet you don't bother to look at it yourself? Highly appreciated! I suppose I'll take my business elsewhere to a dealer that not only knows what its upcoming product offerings are, but which also has the decency to not tell customers to 'stay tuned to a website for further details' without also reading it themselves".

Her response was gold. I love it when people are way off in left field and totally wrong about something, and get abrasive and hostile in their futile attempts to desperately defend themselves ...

"Martin, I do not know everything there is to know about Mazda products that are not out yet, but then again who does. You maybe??? If you like me to follow up I would be happy to do that when we have information available. Otherwise if you wish to express your unhappy feelings about me to someone else you can contact the Sales Manager directly. I'm sorry you feel like I am a stupid person who does not know anything about any vehicles that I try to help sell. I have never had a complaint about me before, so I must be doing something right. Thank you for your time! Have a very pleasant and happy day, sir!!!"
Yes, I had a great day, and a great laugh! I listen to excuses all damn day at work and now I get excuses in my e-mail too.

We are going to have to work on your LOOOONG posting anamnesis. lol
Someone needs to burst her bubble. It's pathetic when a consumer knows more about a product than the salesperson who sells it.
I can't help it. I love beating down people, especially when it's something as simple as just knowing the product they sell. There's nothing worse than a salesperson who has no passion for their trade or knowledge of their product line, whether it's automobiles, electronics, cardboard boxes, or a glazed ham. I find it pathetic that many people who sell cars don't seem to give a damn about even learning about what it is they sell. But their eyes sure do light up when you glance through the dealer accessories catalog so you can fatten their bottom line some more. They don't care what they're selling as long as they get their commission.

In this instance, it was particularly annoying because I was told to go to the website yet this person apparently didn't seem to even attempt to look at it herself ... how long would it have taken her assuming she really knew nothing about the 3? 30 seconds? 45 tops?

If I wasn't on top of the game, and someone told me about a new product, I'd be "Really? Where can I find what you are talking about?" I would be reading up on it and finding out all I could. It's as simple as that.
Exactly. And if it were my job, I'd be embarassed, not defensive and accusatory.
And to think there are more just like her out there. Too bad we aren't Mazda salespeople. We'd be kickin' ass.
I'm sure that it's difficult to be a salesperson, especially when you have to make a certain amount of money per day.

Everyday, sales people are under pressure to sell or lose their jobs.

If that's the case, I'd be busting my ass. Or finding a non-commissioned job.

Even more incentive to learn EVERYTHING about the product you are selling and be excited about it, even if it is just surface excitement.

Hey Absinthe,

I don't know what's with your dealer, but mine said my car should be delivered at the end of November. See my post "My Mazda3 is on it's way!!!" in this section fo the forum.

The dealer I went to showed me a print out of the mazda3 inventory he'll have, and it clearly states that a few (10 at the most) will arrive the 3rd week of november, and that they're at sea right now.

But they'll be part of a limited release, the full release of the mazda3 will be in January. He even gave me a small booklet that mazda gave the dealers where it clearly states that plan (limited release in nov., full release in jan.)
I went at a dealer to discuss price about the MZ3 sport, 5/man, sunroof and a/c. Total cost (every thing included, sales federal, provincial, environment taxes  ) was: can/$ 28 094.41
