Hey all,
Going to be upgrading to O.Z Ultraleggera (black) 18 x 8 with +48mm offset. Tirerack says these wheels will fit, yet they reccommend 215/45's.
I want to go wider and are unsure if I can fit 225/40/18 or even 235/40/18 in the wells of 07' MS3? The car needs more tire!

Comments, suggestions?

Joe

P.S. Any word on CP-E CAI progress?

I was wondering if 225/40R18 would fit on the stock rims as I'd go a tad wider but not enough to warrant to buy new wheels yet. As much as I would like, the pocket can't follow all I would like for the car!

the rack shouldn't have much problem fitting a 245 on a 8" wide rim, but fitting in the wheel well is still an open debate. depending on the exact tire you plan to run, the numbers may be a tad different, but speaking generally, to fit a 245 on a +48 rim, the tire would occupy 10.5mm more space on the inside and 14.5mm more on the outside.

18x8 OZ Ultraleggera on my MS3 with a 225-40-18 Kumho MX. I did not drive the car with the wheel on, but it fit fine.

I did not try turning the wheel or even drive it. I just put the wheel on and let the car back down. You will notice that the wheel gap is alot, but that is because the car is still all torqued up from being on a jack. I also need to get the proper hub rings as these wheels are actually for my RSX (which they have plenty of clearance on).

225/40/18 is far too short, you need a 235/40/18 which is only 0.2" shorter or a 245/40/18 which is 0.1" taller.

Also that wheel looks seriously photoshopped! How'd you make your wheel look like that? :D

depends what you want to do.. if you go witha shorter tire, rubbing on the front of the fender well shouldnt be as much of an issue with wider tires.
Personally, id rather go wider shorter, than maintain the stock circumference and not be able to get that extra 20mm to the ground.

I know it is slightly too small, but only 2% off. However, they are from my other car, which they are .2% too big for....they are not chopped.

also, checking clearance under load (compression of suspension during travel), not just side to side turning clearance... will be trial and error.
