NEW 2 RELEASED

Mazda has updated its four-door compact 2. According to Mazda, changes include "a dynamic new look and host of significant mechanical upgrades that boost performance and cut exhaust emissions."

The update sees the car sporting new front and rear bodywork. Restyled 14-inch wheel trims are featured on the Neo, a new 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheel debuts on the midrange Maxx. The top-spec Genki gets side skirts and a sports grill and front bumper which incorporates driving lights.
Four new exterior colours are offered, taking the total to 11.

All Mazda2 models are powered by a revised 82kW Sequential Valve Timing (SV-T) four-cylinder engine. The 1.5lt unit gets revised cam timing and an electronic throttle which Mazda claims boost torque between 1500-3000rpm.

Engine weight has been trimmed by 2.2kg and the 2 has adopted an electric power steering system based on the unit found in the company's RX-8 sports car.

The Mazda2 Neo kicks off the range at $15,990 including air-conditioning. The Maxx is priced from $19,025. A Safety pack comprising six airbags and ABS brakes is offered on the Neo and Maxx as is priced at $1150. The top of the range Genki is $20,985.

The Mazda Australia head, Doug Dickson, said: "The Mazda2 has been a great success and a fitting entry model into the new generation Mazda line-up. This update, which offers a number of significant changes and improvements can only add to the car's appeal and class-leading dynamics and quality."

" We are confident that it will further improve sales given its new specification and added value as the new Mazda2 range goes on sale at essentially the same prices as before," he said.
