I just bought a used 2007 Mazda3 HB with 63,000 miles on it. After 350.4 miles I filled it up with 11.2 gallons for an average fuel mileage of 31.28mpg. My wife drives it for her commute which is 52 miles each way and about 10% of its city, the rest is 60mph highway. We haven't really seen it drop below 30mpg even with some mountain driving to go hiking.

I have a 2012 2.0 SkyActiv 3 and I've been seeing between 31-34mpg average. I'm on my 8th tank of gas and get about 400 miles to a tank. Much better than my Subaru.

Data for my '05 3i mtx over the 1st 100k miles

Yesterday (10/1/12) marked 7-years + 7-months since I drove my car off a local Mazda dealership's lot after signing the papers on 3/1/05. Just a coincidence, but yesterday was also my 54th birthday!

During the drive home from work I observed (and photographed) the odometer as it registered 99,999 and 100,000 miles.

My 3i has been and continues to be reliable, enjoyable to drive and economical to operate. While I've considered replacing her with something different, newer and flashier so far I've resisted the temptation and probably will end up hanging on to her for a while.

Based on all miles driven and fuel purchases so far, listed below is a summary of data collected for my 3i starting with the 1st fill-up and up through the last time I topped off the tank las week (9/27/12):

236 = total number of fill-ups
99,866.9 = total number of miles driven
2,590.256 = total number of gallons purchased
$6,902.73 = total paid for fuel

38.55 mpg = average miles per gallon
32.55 mpg = lowest average calculated for a tank (303.0 miles/9.308 gallons...1st fill-up on 3/13/05)
46.71 mpg = highest average calculated for a tank over 10 gallons (626.0 miles/13.403 gallons...127th fill-up on 9/09/08)
56.12 mpg = highest average calculated for a partial tank (204.5 miles/3.644 gallons...94th fill-up on 5/29/07)

6.91 cents = average cost for fuel per mile
$2.665 = average price paid per gallon for fuel
$1.879 = lowest price paid per gallon for fuel (3/13/05...$23.10 for 12.294 gallons)
$4.029 = highest price paid per gallon for fuel (7/09/08...$54.00 for 13.403 gallons)

I just got my new Mazda 3 skyactive 2012 in July. I have been driving mostly city miles and I am getting just about 23-24 while treating this car like a baby. It is an automatic.

I heard new cars need a break in period and that gas mpg will get better?
I also drive it on the highway doing a steady 60 and getting about 33-34mpg...
Shouldn't it be closer to 28/40?

Hey all,
I've got a question that may have been answered in the 500+ pages here but searching doesn't really bring up anything pertinant.
I have a '10 2.5L 6 speed that I've had for, oh, about 2 weeks now and I'm really dissapointed in the gas mileage.
For those of you with the 2.5 (or I guess even if you don't), have any of you tracked your gas mileage before and after if you switched to just a CAI? How about running full synthetic? And also what octane are most of you NA drivers running?
I see alot of people getting high 20's low 30's...i just want to break the 25mpg mark. I realize that by driving mostly city miles I'm basically doomed, but I need to know that I've tried everything to get these numbers up.

Hi guys. Long time no post. Still have my 3. Bought Dec. 11, 2003, so have had it for 9+ years. Only 40,400 miles on er. 4500 miles a year lol. Running like a top and still handles great. Bit of rust though. Keeping in mind the 2004 2.3 4spd ATX was the worst mpg performer of the 3's available back then I'm now relatively satisfied with my Gas mileage-generally over 30 mpg on tanks with 80%+ highway miles.
Three Mica...hope your mpg is improving...I know mine, and I think just about everyone else here, saw improvement as car got more miles on it. Don't think any non-hybrids get tremendous mpg though if driven primarily city.

Just found http://www.fuelly.com/ looks like an amazing site to track MPG. I used to do it all on an excel spreadsheet, but no more. Anyone use anything else to track their MPG?
I've kept all of my car's mpg information on Excel since day one and also post the results for viewing online here:

www.brianbauer.org

To view all of my car's results navigate to: Vehicles...Mazda...2005...3 2.0L...manual & look for results for Chesterfield, VA.

Long time no post. 33.5 MPG lifetime (2006 2.3 manual, granny shifting, 75% highway) and almost 69,000 miles. http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rldas1/3. The reason for long time no post is that I got a new job with a nice 15% pay increase. I like the job, but it's hard and I have no time to surf at work!

The most exciting thing about my car recently is that I finally installed the free mp3 aux mod to my radio using a computer CDROM cable. Now I have music freedom for those long drives. Yeah!

I'm now looking to get a 2010 or 2011 Mazda3 hatch with Skyactiv. I think I could easily top 40 mpg overall with my driving style. They're hard to find on Craigslist! lol. So, who knows...
