I finally got my hands on a set of MX-5 Miata Rims (17x7, 55mm offset). I am trying to decide what size and brand tires to go with for these.

The stock size is 205/45/17. I was thinking of going with either 215/45/17 or 225/45/17. What are your thoughts on this? And will the 225's fit?

I have a set of winter tires so I don't really need an all-season tire. But I would like something that the traction isn't too bad when it is wet. I was thinking the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1's or Yokohama S.drive.

Either size fits. I have a set of Racing Harts off an 2003 MSP, they're the same size. I currently have 205/50 on them and I'm going to switch them this summer. 225's are a bit wider than ideal for 7" rims, but it is doable.

For tires, you can also look at something like the Goodyear GS-D3. It's a bit more than the Z1 * Specs, but last I heard were the tires to have in the rain. They also have a bit better wear rating.

Everything I have seen from other Miata forums and looking up stock size on tirerack etc.. shows 205/45/17 as the mx-5 stock size.

I think I might just end up going with this size because of the clearance tirerack has for the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R

That may be the stock size for a Miata, but you don't drive a Miata "Profile says mazda 3" Just because you are putting Miata rims on a Mazda 3 doesn't mean that you want there tire size. The 205/50/17 is the tire you want, if you want the stock size tire for the Mazda 3. If you want a 45 side wall then go with 215/45/17
hope that helps.

Yeah, 205/45R17 will be a bit on the small side for the 3, 215/45 would be a better choice.
