Thinking of trading my 2004 RX8 GT for a 2010 MS3 but don't know much about the MS3. Can someone tell me if I would enjoy driving the MS3? If someone has driven both cars can you give me your opinion on the differences between the cars.
Thanks

The 2010 MS3 isn't out so no one has driven it. I recommend driving a 2009 MS3 to get an idea. No one is better equiped to tell you what you will like other than yourself.

That being said, there is a ton of info on the current gen MS3 here on the forum.

Trade in the High spinning horsepower of the RX8 for MAD low and mid range torque. Think if thats a change you will like. First week I kept pushing my engine to the limiter before I got a feel for driving below 5k rpm.

MS3 is heavier and roomier. Staight line acceleration is better on the MS3.

Huge torque on front wheel drive makes for some really weird handling, where the RX8 handles like a sports car. I won't say its bad handling but it takes some getting used to driving the MS3. Although the torque sensing steering had tended to throw me for a loop because it takes about 1/2 second before it will engage so its like your steering is locked for that bit and then it goes reactive again. When you test drive the car, do a wide accelerating turn and you'll feel the worst that this effect has to throw at you.

The fact that mazda had to put boost limits on the first 2 gears, has made me a little nervous as to how long the drivetrain will last.

The 2010 3 hatch doesn't look nearly as good as the '09 IMHO. there are some 09's out there in inventories and dealers will probably make some nice offers.

Saw it at Detroit Auto Show this year and WOW did I cringe. They didn't have a speed but the lines on the 3 hatch were just blah. My wife hated them, and she picked out the 08.5 we have now. and if you look at a profile of the front end, it looks like it has a big snoz sticking out the front.

BUT looks are all about who is looking.

I have driven this in Feb and yes, I will be getting one. Much nicer and a larger engine is a plus. More power and so much nicer inside. Better quality materials.

the 2010 ms3 engine is exactly the same as the 2009 ms3 engine. it is not larger.

I just sold my 2007 MazdaSpeed3 to buy a 2010 MazdaSpeed3. Primarily because my 2007 is black and I really wanted a red one. My buddy loves the car and wanted to buy mine, so we worked out the $ and I'm picking up the new car on Saturday.

I like how threat became yet another, 1st gen MSP3 vs 2nd gen MSP3

I was pretty close to getting a RX-8, when I sat inside, the interior of the car really cups you in. HOWEVER

I decided not to get the RX-8 because...
1) Crappy gas mileage
2) I didn't like the idea of revving it really high just to get it going. I can see how this is beneficial on a track, but on the streets, where it'll be driven 95% of the time. That's just a pain
3) I didn't like the idea of redlining it at least once a day to clear out the carbon
4) I didn't like the risk of flooding the engine, because honestly, it's very common to shut the car off only to turn it back on.

Straight line, the MSP3 is faster than the RX-8.
Handling, RX-8 beats MSP3, but the MSP3 is more than capable to keeps you smiling.

I was in the car with them. Besides, my friends are "adults" and respect other's property or else I wouldn't let them drive my car!

I realize this thread was started awhile ago, but wanted to add my 2 cents as a former owner of an 04 RX8 (I've only had test drive time behind the wheel of the MS3). They really are 2 very different cars, and hard to compare.

Having gone from FWD to RWD and now back to FWD (1st with a MINI and now with a NA 3), you will likely have to adjust to a bit of torque steer. Personally, I missed the feel of the RWD RX8 squating back on the rear wheels when I accelerated, and not having to fight the wheel at the same time.

You will gain some MPGs, even getting on the boost. I used to get 10-12 city and 14 highway with the RX8.

The reliability of the 04 RX8 has not been good. I would think a car under warranty would be appealing right about now.

The MS3 is much more functional with 4 full sized doors and the hatchback. But you probably won't get the looks you probably got with the RX8.

Again, just my 2 cents!
