whatsup guys. My friend has a black speed 3 and has been telling me to get one for quite some time now. I like the car alot!! the only thing i don't like about it is i keep hearing that the rods on the car are horrible. I hear that 350 at the crank will bend a rod, is this true???


i love the handling and i want a boosted car. Im thinking of either this, cobalt ss/tc, or 09 wrx (more than likely not), or a mustang gt (not boosted but reacts to mods)

what do you guys think, i would just be doing turboback exhaust, CAI, Intercooler, and tune. Is that safe




And are the people bending rods more than we think or is it really that big of a problem?

Most people say it's around 350whp we run into problems with the weak stock Rods.

What are your goals for the car, weekend racer, street racer (lets hope not), Daily Driver? Basically what are you looking for in the car?

My suggestion, if you have the money, get the 09 WRX. I know if the 09 WRX was out when I was shopping around, lets just say my garage would be occupied by a beast of another kind. :lol: The 09 is a vast improvment over the 08. It's faster 0-60 (4.9, C&D) then a STI.

im looking for a daily driver/weekend racer. I'd track the car because it is such a great handling car.




the 09 wrx IMO is great and all but AWD can blow me. You lose so much WHP through the drivetraing. THey dyno 205 stock and with full bolt-ons make 303 at the wheels with 330WTQ, and they weigh quite a bit. It doesnt handle as well as the speed3 either and i live in a very sunny place that does not see snow, so AWD doesnt really do much for me other than a great launch.


so i'd be fine up to 350 at the Wheels???


i think that with what im gonna do i'd make 320WHP. How do these cars last modded after say 50K miles??

You're really underestimating the WRX. The WRX has a power power potential that far exceeds that of the Mazdaspeed 3. It would take some major investment into the motor of the 2.3 DISI to keep up with the potential of the 2.5 found in the WRX/STI.

yeah but bolt-on for bolt-on the mazdaspeed 3 will take it

Should I have that kind of money, it'd be worth every penny. I'd love to have a WRX/STI and MS3 sittin in my garage.

True, if you want a track car it will outpace a WRX. stock for stock.

The Cobalt SS/tc is a, fwd, track monster.

In the end aftermarket support wins it, and as far as that goes... WRX > MS3

The initial cost might be more but there are more options on the market to go with than we could ever dream of for our MS3.

I'm still very content with my purchase of the MS3 though, don't get me wrong. I love having the car that always gets underestimated when you're on the streets. :lol:
