haha what a peice of shit video. They didnt mention jack about the MS3, then they start debating and as soon as one guy mentions the mazda, they cut away. It would be great if any of these bias brits let the ms3 get a tract time. sure, its a mega test, too bad its hardly a fair test if they dont give ANY info on the competing cars.
so to sum it up, another group of brits didnt like a mazda, big surprise.

Mildly interesting, but they should have called it the "single guys' hot hatch mega-test" since they didn't seem much interested in the 4-doors. I wish I could read the spreadsheet b/c it looks like the MPS3 scored well in places that might matter more to us than it did to them. Overal, I think it comes down to Europeans (Brits, too, apparently!) having a greater appreciation for super-fine handling dynamics. I think we're more willing to give up some of what is basically an aesthetic value for better power and acceleration.
north american roads are in general wider, straighter, and less potholed. i have no doubts the speed3 doesnt handle crappy european roads as well as the megane r26.
fwiw the speed3 ranked #7 on their track test. which proves there's more than just straightline power to getting good lap times.

And was it me or were the guys on super boring mode, as far as presentation goes? They should have let storytellers reveal their results rather than themselves. I felt like falling asleep listening to them. They had absolutely no engaging manner of speech.

It's largely a cost issue. To get both super-fine handling and great power in one package is very expensive.
I think a good driver can learn to drive anything fast. Super-fine handling just makes it easier. That's why I say it's an aesthetic value to a certain extent. Back in my motorcycle days I remember reading about some of the beasts that the top roadracers had to deal with. But they did it, because the beasts allowed them to go faster than anybody else and win.

Ah, ok. I could see where you're coming from then. Makes sense. I guess then it all comes down to one's preference as to what kinda car behavior one looks for. More often than not, I'd agree with you that Americans tend to prefer better power and acceleration. Though, I still crave at least a sample of many European vehicles that aren't available to us, simply because of the different approach to speed.
