the final say on electronic corrosion protection?

been through a few threads already, but nothing definitive has been noted. it has also been about a year since the latest thread on this.

what are your thoughts on this sort of rust proofing? i ask because i got in to a discussion about this at lunch today with some coworkers and it literally seemed too good to be true. i had never heard of this sort of thing, but i've seen it in practice on different applications (ie: submerge rusted part in salt water, turn on the juice, good-bye rust).

anyone have one? i know they're available through crappy tire for us canadians, just wondering if anyone has heard any actual testimony or has additional info.

also, do the 3s have galvanized panels?

Cathodic protection on cars is bogus. To force electrons to the surface that needs protection, there needs to be a "flow"... Where's the electrons supposed to flow in a car?

Coatings are going to protect you from rust on your car. Not special electron sauce. :)

It's a SCAM.

heh

I also don't think we have galvanized panels. Our panels are coated though.
mmm, electron sauce.
I got it on my 05 sedan.. there is rust on the windsheild wiper arm (right where it connects to the motor. There is rust on the screw/plug on my rear door driver side door (have no idea what it's for, seems to just sit in a hole in the car body when the door is closed. And there is surface rust forming in my front passenger wheel well.

The dealership told me that the electronic rust protection doesn't cover any of them. Apparently it only covers if the body panels rust all the way through.

The whole reason I got it was because the manager told me that if I get it, any rust will be repaired under warranty. I figured it was just a module with a flashing LED, but I wanted the warranty that there would be no rust...

That was the worst $500 I've ever spent. Be warned... it certainly doesn't work, and the warranty that comes with it is useless!
The rust warranty is included with the car. Sounds like someone sold you a fake warranty and snake oil.

Yes... unfortunately I learned that the hardway. One of the reasons I actively tell people to stay the hell away from the dealership where I bought my car. :?
That kind of corrosion protection is only used properly on ocean going ships (under the water line) and underground pipelines. The entire vehicle would have to be submerged in salt water for it to work.

In other words, it won't do jack shit on a car.

So your saying the people in New Orleans should have gotten this setup before Katrina, huh?
