Heads Up, in February, Michigan will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy.

The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers overtime.

There will be 50 state troopers on duty 24/7 patrolling the following highways.

I-75 North and South
I-94 from Ann Arbor to Port Huron
Entire length of I-96 & I-696
I-275 North and South
M-10 Lodge Fwy

Now, 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket, and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they are bringing all their part timers on full time.

* Wear your seat belt;
* Nothing hanging from the rear view mirror;
* Do the speed limit - use cruise control if you have it;
* No cracks in your windshield;
* And use your turn signals!

exactly.

my parents wonder why i have a bad attitude about police. this is why. they don't have shit else to do but sit there and pull people over for going 5 over...

now this is just a rumor, who knows if it's true. but i know them getting a bunch of new unmarkeds is true. i drive by one of the county sheriff departments everyday to go to school, and basically i see a cop almost everytime i leave my house.

they have about 5 new squads at that station. in the last 3 weeks or so.

especially in ohio where writing speeding tickets is all the State Patrol does. i mean, the speedlimit is 55 everywhere on the freeway. wtf is that. it's an EXPRESSWAY. meaning fast.

Not everywhere is it 55, only in the cities. Turnpike is 65 mph and most interstates in rural areas are also 65 mph.

This may be a hoax, but they have done something similar in NC. I believe they do it only for a week, and they most certainly don't use a bunch of unmarked crown vics. They do however bring in a lot of money to the state coffers, and I'm sure some of that makes it back to fund public projects and such. I don't know that they're pulling for anything over the speed limit, but they definitely pull more people over during this week. The biggest examples of them going all out to get people that I saw were I guy parked on the shoulder of the interstate with his hood up and a white cloth hanging from the window with the guy sitting in a lawn chair in front of the car tagging people with a radar gun. You couldn't see him until you were right at him. The others were just undercover cars you wouldn't expect. A convertible with the top down driving along in a lane. A minivan. A forester, etc.

Also a couple of years ago when I was still in VA there was a several day-a week period right after there had been mutiple horrible fatal car wrecks on the interstate attributed entirely to speeding that they had the state police pulling you for anything over. And I mean anything. I saw multiple tickets written for 1 mph over the limit, and I had several friends that were state troopers that told me about it. The actually really hated doing it for the reason that a number of those tickets would probably be thrown out based on calibration differences between speedometers and radar...... I mean even if I set my cruise control it will still vary a mph or two above or below. That being said those troopers did point out that they saw a drastic reduction in speeding during that week.

it's 70 in michigan, and everyone drives 80. you go 5 over in ohio and the OHP will pull you over with their fancy laser guns in about 10 minutes.

those little express lanes are still the same speed in ohio, they oughta be faster.

Actually, as defined by Merriam Websters Online Dictionary an expressway is a high-speed divided highway for through traffic with access partially or fully controlled. In every instance a US expressway is characterized by a generally higher speed limit than that of other roads.

Really, and his comment, "Expressway meaning fast" is the same as that def? His comment was directed to the fact that 55 wasn't fast enough, your posting of this def. doesn't change that his statement was wrong. Plus the second sentence is your's not websters. Also his last statement of "Express lanes should be faster" shows that he considers "express" to mean fast when it just means that no local traffic will interrupt you. 1) You were trying to be smart and said expressways only means no stop signs or stop lights.
2) I posted a definition that says Expressway does mean fast, reinforcing STK's accuracy. If its an expressway, MEANING HIGH SPEED, the limit should be over 55.
3) Obviously that second part of my post wasn't the defintion, I didn't think anyone would get close to confusing it..

You were wrong in saying EXPRESSWAY only means no stopsigns or stoplights. i"m pretty sure he has been talking about speed limits this entire time with no reference to traffic, also.
