I did a synthetic oil change on my 2007 mazda. It had 7500 miles when I did the switch. I drive close to 3000 miles a month on the car. When should I go in for another oil change? 90% of the miles are highway and average speed is probably 85MPH. The type of oil the was put in was the penzoil platnium.

I would say you could easily go 7,500 miles with PP, based on your fairly easy driving conditions. The more freeway miles you drive, the better it is on your engine and its oil.

Thanks for the responses. I am gonna probably do oil changes at 7500 miles then.

Change it in 5,000 miles, then send in a sample for a UOA (used oil analysis) and TBN (total base number). A good place that a lot of people here use is Blackstone Labs (www.blackstone-labs.com), it costs $30. They'll analyze your oil and can tell you if you have any abnormal engine wear, but they can also extrapolate from the oil how much life it has in it (that's the TBN). Based on what they come back with, then you can find out whether you can run it to 7,500 miles or not. Better safe than sorry.
