it depends how your subs were installed, it is common to connect the LOC's for the subs to the rear channels of the head unit output. It your system is hooked up like this then if you fade sound to the front you can effectively turn down the subs volume.

i heard that if you have subs and you want to play music without them blasting, you make it so that music plays in only the front seats and it makes the subs quiet.
