Depending on what the inside of the muffler components used were? Many aftermarket mufflers need a break in period before both the new smells as well the end sound will actually be. There could also be some chemical residue left from packing, shipping and handling. At this point keep an eye on it but I am sure it is normal

I often get a chuckle when someone or a company posts a video of their muffler directly after installing it when we know that in about 500 miles that muffler is going to either sound different or be loader then they claimed.
