I am going to be buying a ms3 once i get back to the states. Trying to decide if the stock nav is worth it. i read some of the other posts on it and there is obviously some mixed views. If not the stock one then i definitely want to get an aftermarket in dash. any suggestions on which ones work best?

Get the aftermarket. I got a great deal on my ms3 w/ navi thats the only reason I got it. But if it came down to paying the actual $1800 or whatever extra...hell no.

lol gotta love getting deals on things. yeah thats pretty much my thinking, id much rather dump that money into more fun things for the car. Do you know anywhere that sells a mount like the stock one? i like the hide away deal

I like the stock navi, the integration is nice.

You can probably do an aftermarket setup that integrates the same way for the money if you install it yourself though, just requires some hands on ability.

I just bought a late model 08 mazda3gt with nav.
it is a waste of $$$. you can not use any functions while driving. you must me stopped.
I checked everywhere to find a hack and have not had any luck yet.
navtv who makes modules for this fix makes one for every other car but mazda3.
go aftermarket and get one with bluetooth capability.

yeah, they put the lockdown on it in '06. Thankfully my '04 does not have that "feature".

the stock nav is a love and hate kinda relationship.

I bought the stock nav because in my old mirage i had to do aftermarket.

Pros:
it will always know you're location since its hardwired
it will calculate distance and time of arrival based on traffic and what you're driving on

Cons:
the map is out of date and no one can give me a clear answer on how to update the disc
sometimes it wont alphabetize your address book

my personal 2 cents, even though it has a lot of flaws, I really like it and I don't expect it to do everything for me. I have discographia (meaning I have no sense of direction) so just seeing where I am on the map is nice even if I know how to get there. Every car manufacturer put the lock down on movement because the logic is, why would you play with your gps going 80 mph.

FYI heres and email response I got about the update disc.

OFF TOPIC

Never heard of that before, so I tried to look it up. Found no results at dictionary.com.

From Urban Dictionary:
Discographia: On peer to peer(p2p) networks, often a way to disguise large pornographic files. Also a verb, describing the act of being duped into thinking one is downloading something else.

Closest I found was:
dysgraphia: noun, impaired ability to learn to write

By the length and fluency of your post, I don't think you have dysgraphia.

short story, discographia is a cognitive disorder where when you get placed in a position, you have no sense of direction and when you get lost, you really get LOST. And how do I know this, I'm diagnosed and I worked in higher education with people with learning and cognitive disabilities.

Found this but I think I'll try it when there's light out

Go to the menu, Navigation Setup.
Click on Calibration, then Show Version.

Now, with the joystick do two clicks up, then two clicks down. You now have a new menu with choices of screens that get into details of the satellites, dead reckoning sensors, GPS based digital speedometer and other fun stuff. I am not sure it is good for anything except entertainment, but is it always cool to have cheat codes for stuff. You can check you speedometer accuracy.

pidass-do you know if the version you've got is newer than the disc that comes stock with the 08.5?
[/quote]

Really easy to check...eject your disk, if the last letter is < E then you have an older version.
