So, now that we've discovered how to unlock our fuel computer, who thinks its completely useless? My MPG is nowhere near accurate (its about 5-12 mpg short), and the miles remaining is a joke. I had 257-259 miles remaining for an odomter reading of a good 30 miles.

Does anyone know how to reset the "avg consumption" and "avg speed" aspects? Im pretty sure my average speed is well over 36 mph. lol.

I have no idea how to reset it, but

I *think* (don't quote me on this) that it includes stops (at lights, stop signs, etc.)... and traffic.

Any confirmation, guys?

Mine seems fairly accurate. It's been within +/-1 mpg of my manual calculations for the last 5 fill-ups since I activated it. As for the miles remaining; I consider it a kinda useless feature anyway.

Mine is rather accurate. I suspect that the miles remaining leaves at least 1.5 gallons in the tank just to be on the safe side. It is still useful since it is a good idea to never use the last one gallon anyway, since a lot of crud falls to the bottom of the tank.

I do appreciate the trick to turn it on, it saved me an unnecessary trip to the gas station when I was in a vast hurry to get home. I could tell by the progress of the miles remaining that I would have no trouble making it to the gas station after the trip was complete.

U have to reset it every time you fill up, press nad hold "SET" button, do it for for all of them, on your Trip remaining miles you wont be able to do it. But keep in mind that your MPG calculates by that miles remaining, when it gets to "0", your Average MPG will be calculated by the miles you have driven, and you may still have about 3 gallons in the tank when that happens, so when you drive beyond your "Empty" arrow, your Average MP will stay the same when your miles remaining got to "0". But u need to reset it every time.

Mine has seemed completely accurate. from mpg to average speed. Also the mileage counter is till the light comes on on the gas guage i think.

this is a negative lol.

when my gas light came on, i had to use the miles remaining to make sure i had enough gas to go where i was going.

it said 23 miles when i got in the car this morning and saw the light for the first time.

maybe light comes on about 25 miles before empty?

Nah the light comes on pretty early; at least in my 3. If I fill up a few miles after the light comes on I still have about 2 gal in the tank. That'd be ~60 miles.

I haven't paid much attention to the miles left function to say weather it agrees with my 60mi assessment

Lights comes on sometimes before it even gets to an "Empty", usually when you have about 2-3 gallons left in the tank, as for miles remaining on your fuel info, it most likely will say about 20-40 miles remaining, even thought your it says your have 20-40 miles remaining and your fuel arrow is not on "Empty" yet, your light will come on, most likely because it knows that you have 2-3 gallons left in the tank.

Also, every gas station has different level of fuel top off, on the other hand, its also important if you parked on the flat surface to get accurate fill up, than on little bit inclined surface. I have noticed whenever i parked on inclined surface most of the time i fill up more than i usually do for miles i drive, or less than i usually fill up. So, for the most accurate self MPG i would got to the same gas station and the same pump at least 4-5 times, and coprate it to your current MPG you get on your Fuel info. I have been going to the same Shell station for the past couple of months, and the same pump for the past a month, and i get pretty accurate reading unless i drive beyond "EMPTY" and when my fuel info miles remaining was "0" after 25-30 miles driven, where as i know i should have 1-1.5 gallons left in the tank, but when i filled up i realized that for some strange reason i filled 12.5 gallons, where i should have had 13-13.5, anyways, if you do it right and compare u will know that your fuel infor i accurate. Oh, yes, when you fill up i realized that most of the time your miles remaining when "full" is usually 370-390 miles on ("S" model) is based on 12-12.5 gallons not your full tank.

Just checked the accuracy of mine - it actual understated mileage by 0.9 mpg last tank. 24.8 per my calculation (using same gas station, same pump for fillup), 23.9 per computer. I did about 75% city driving this go around, so not the greatest mpg :?

I think it is fairly accurate and I don't trust calculating your average mpg using the numbers from the pump because I filled up at a shell not too long ago and it said I had pumped a little over 15 gallons. Well the mazda tank is only like 14.5 so their pumps and I'm sure others are not calibrated correctly. Also I did roll in there on damn near fumes.

I also just realized something and I am not sure if it works or not, but under my normal driving habits which are pretty rough, my current gas consumption will read like 20-30 mpg on highway. If I turn on cruise control it will jump way up to low mid 30s to high 40s. So right now I am using cruise control religiously even in the city to see if I can get more miles out of a tank. Typically I get 300 miles to a tank and I fill it up about once a week.

Hm, now i am pretty much confused, every time i fill up i usually get 310 miles on 12.3 or 12.5 gallons, which is 25.2-24.8 mpg, and the funny part, i reset my fuel info every time i feel up, the fuel info said "Average MPG 23.8", and no matter how many times i compare from now on i always get that reading, BUT i also realized that the reason it was always around 23mpg is because when i have a full tank of gas i will have my foot hard to the floor, and the rest 3/4 of the tank crusing around, but when i started my first 1/4 of the tank crusing and the rest 3/4 driving little hard, my pg came out to be on the fuel info 25mpg, strange.
