Speed governer

I just found out last night that I apparently have a speed governer on my car. Why give me 140 on my speedometer, when I can only go 120?

why go so fast
because when your racing your little mazda3, you only get up to like 90mph anyway!
o kspec.
I've hit 118 twice in this car in the 3 1/2 years I've owned it and I'm a total speed demon. With a lot more state police on the roads today and the risk of turning into mush if you crash, why go that fast?

Or maybe I'm getting old.

its da truth lol.
1/4 mile for the mazda3 will only get you to like what.. 86mph right?
ok so why go over 118...no reason and is pure stupidity...i did on a highway that was for the most part empty at the time (it was like 3..4..am)and was still stupid ..but ..ive gotta know..and has anyone realized the same bluelight occurs on the rpm ..redline it and you also get the bluetip needle..and it seemed to move with the needle..now just out of curiousity..if the light isnt in the needle...how the hell does it seem to move with the needle tip?im not arguing that it is in the needle i just want to know where it is and why this happens..explain please..
it's the reflection of the blue LEDs that's lighting the cluster- nothing special.
I have an '07 and my govner kicked in at about 114-117 I couldn't really tell to busy trying to slow down cause tehre was a cop going down the street perpindicular to the one I was on lol braking up hill. luckaly I got down to about 65-70ish range. man o man are country roads fun.
I hate driving on the Autobahn and seeing the no speed limit signs pop up and then every one takes off and I can't keep up. Always really wished I would have swung the extra for an MS3.

Plus people always ask me "Hey I heard you got a Mazda 3, is it the MazdaSpeed version!?"

Look at getting an aftermarket turbo. Then youll be passing speed 3s :)
Aftermarket turbo....? Didn't know you could get an OEM turbo for the 3 :p
i've had my speed3 up to 135 mph. it still felt like it wanted to go a hell of a lot more.
the way the statetroopers have been out last few months lucky i hit 80mph...
I get that we don't really need to be going that fast, but why are there different top speeds? why would my 2.3 hit 116 where my mom's 6 hit 140, and then brothers ms3 hit about the same? why do we get the short end of the stick? I live near sd where they can now crush your car is your going over 90, so i don't speed much anymore but it would be nice to have the option right
why don't one of you guys buy my turbo kit for sale and bye bye speed governor :goodjob:
The limiter is set where it is on most American cars because of the tires that come with the car. In the case of a lot of manufacturers they are lazy (IE want to save money), so they'll set the limiter on ALL cars of a trim based on the tires that come with the base trim, even if the standard tires are higher speed rated on one of the upper trim levels.

In this case the base tires that come with the 3i are H rated, 124mph max (Toyo Proxie A17s). So 117.5mph limiter (to be more exact and to have a 'cushion'). This is why the Speed 3 comes with Y rated tires (186mph) and a 155mph limiter.

My response from the thread about removing the governor in the performance mods section, this is why the differing limiters and the lower one on the Mazda 3.

well that's what you get for not having an 04-05 lol

I just sold the kit today anyway
not to re-hash a dead thread or anything but. what if you just went into mazda and told them you want your car at the track and have the appropriate tires for it? yes, i do track it. but even then you guys are saying the engine could only make power up to about 130mph then it couldn't overcome the wind drag?
