I just got my 5 door S on Friday and today was the first time I had 4 people in it. Whenever I take a left turn at a considerable amount of speed.... (but not real fast) I hear a loud scraping sound coming from my rear passenger side wheel well. What the heck!!???

The 5 door only comes in the S model with the 17" wheels where I am located. yeah I had a full load of people 2 in back and one in the front passenger seat. It was only over a pot hole, speed bump, or left turn? Whatever it is, it is REAL loud and sounds REAL bad! I have it at my dealership now, they had me drive it around with a couple of mechanics in the back so they could hear it. Once they did hear it one said "ooh, try not to do that again" which I am guessing isn't good. They thought it was going to be an easy fix and told me to hang around, like something loose or something. But they could not find anything. so now they have to rip the whole rear right off to find out what it is. I will post their results when I get them.

My dad and I where thinking afterwards and thought it might be that the caliper is loose or something and it is scraping on the rotor or binding. At any rate... it sux hard ~:-(

The problem is Lagit!!!

Again the problem is when you have 4 people in the 5 door 3, and you take a slow speed turn and hit a bump, or if you hit a bumb at a decent speed (20mph+) there is a very loud scraping/metal on metal sound coming from underneath the car near the rear (to me it sounds like the rear passenger side wheel well).

MY dealership has implamented a service ticket with Mazda Tech. They have tested this issue with 2 other new Mazda 3 5 door's from their inventory, 1 from Illinois and 2 in california and have confirmed that the problem exists in all tested 5 doors. They believe it is an issue with the struts which apparently are softer then the first run of 3's due to some consumers complaining of a harsh ride. My dealership is in the process of trying to find out what can be done to resolve the problem.

I may get a free upgraded suspension out of this which would be sweet! So if you have the same problem with your 3 make sure you let your dealer know. The more people that complain about it, then the sooner and faster it will get fixed!

I would like as many people to get their "fat freinds" together and give it a go. haha Everybody try it and report there findings here. Just make sure you take it over bumbs.

What does Lagit mean? Anything like Legit?

I have made plans for 3 of my friends to take an urban on-roading trip this weekend, slowly traverse some bumbs, maybe get over 20 mph while turning, and listen for some scraping. Might even stop by the dealer and ask them if they want to ride. Should be much fun!

This is what I got from Mazda in an email concerning the noise.

MAZDA International said:
I have spoken with our Product Engineers regarding your inquiry. They
have advised the concern you're experiencing is due to excess weight in
the vehicle. The seats are spec'd out at 160 lbs. This is under further
investigation, so I don't have any additional information at this time.

I wonder if this is happening in the sedan too. I would hope not since the sedan back probably weighs 60 to 80 pounds less than the 5-door, but I will still test this out in my sedan.

I had this loud popping noise come from the rear suspension over a bump once. Never heard it since though. More than likely it was my box of sh*t in the trunk that bounced up and down.

I'll see if it happens again.
