I've noticed, after driving two different MS3s, that these otherwise spectacular automobiles sure do fall flat after 5500rpms. And the dyno charts seem to support that observation.

What's the cause? Initially, I felt pretty strongly that some exhaust work would remedy the issue. But there was some discussion elsewhere on this forum of the e-throttle starting to close at those rpms? And 9.7 afrs? Yikes. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Now I'm wondering if exhaust work will actually grow the useable rpm range.

It is definitely the throttle plate closing that is causing the car to fall on its face in those upper revs. But compounded by the fact that this is quite a small turbo and can't flow as much air when spinning in those rev ranges.

check out the modifications section, there are dyno's showing it happening, I think cobb's initial "first impressions" thread outlines some of it?

finally someone understands the limitations of the k04...its refreshing to see someone else understand that after 280-300whp this turbo will be very slow...people think they will get 350whp and be so fast but that k04 just can't do more then 300whp (on the gti's it can only do about 280)

who cares, just shift...you miss the power band over 5500 anyways...if you want a high revving motor, get a civic si. but you have to wait till 6700 to feel anything. who wants to flog a car that way.
rumour is the cai will give some extra breathing and bit more pull after 5500. that's the sacrifice you make sometimes for a quick spool and low end torque.

TBH, I didn't buy the MS3 as a super tuner car anyways... so for ME the smaller turbo is AWESOME because it gets me a bit faster spooling! :) Granted in a few years when the warranty is up, and I have another daily driver I would have no problem putting a bigger turbo in the car...if I could still have traction that is :)
