So, has anyone installed a sunroof in their MZ3?

Just wondering if anyone has, and what their experience was/is.... I am seriously contemplating on getting it installed - the slide version, not the tilt panel one which starts ratteling after a couple of years....

I recommend you not to install an aftermarket sunroof. As it will effect the structure of the car body. I have a sun roof installed on my pervious Lancer. It looks great with a sunroof. but it is really not good to have one if factory does not come with.
Ive read that one of the reasons the car handles so well is its structural rigidity, and I believe that installing a sunroof will compomise the cross bracing in the roof...

Can anyone confirm?
the roof braces only play part in the structural integrity of the cars weight on an instance of a roll-over...

If u want handling, u would install struts over the boot and the engine which prevents body roll?
But wouldnt a well braced roof prevent body flex? Such as you get in certain convertibles? That would in turn inadvertantly create a more sure footed feel on the road...
I doubt the extra beam provides added rigitity for cornering and performance purposes. Hotztuf is right... is helps in the event of a rollover and/or high side impact. You need anti-roll bars lower in the car for performance stabilising purposes..

Aus safety regs are much tighter than anywhere else, this is why the MZ3's in Japan, USA, and Europe can have a sunroof installed. So it's it's good for the rest of the world, then whats wrong for us.

The only downside I can think of is that aftermarket sunroofs never fit quite right, inspite of that the fitter tell you.
For my own opinions, if i really want a car with a sunroof, i will buy a Mazda 6 sport instead of Mazda 3..

Factory stuffs always better then after markets I reckon.
i just dont like the feeling of someone cutting my roof open....and if they cut it to wrong size... that'll mean craftmanship and therefore more leak-prone

howard, wow, changing choice of car(handling, size, price etc..) just for a sunroof..
I means if the sunroof is the 1st priorty to consider to buy a new car..

I cannot afford the mazda 6 sport... it coz 44k, if i can afford 44k i wil get a volvo s40, but if i can afford the volvo, i will get the rx8, if i can afford thr rx8, i will get a BMW 320, if i can get a BMW 320.......330ci....M3.....Ferrari 360.......i am going crazy...

   This was my thinking also! But with different cars post the M6sport of course! ;)
I still do not understand why a factory sunroof is not available. Yes, I have read previous threads that said there is a cross beam in the roof due to ADR requirements. If that is true, then surely it applies to ALL cars sold in Australia?? Just doesn't make sense!!
Your question is the same as..

"Why the mazda 3 here doesn't come with the AUTO swipper, AUTO Headlight, DSC and TSC , leather seats, etc...?"

if someone can answer you question, he can answer this question too....
G
has anyone thought about getting a moonroof???

cos ive been thinkin about that instead of a sun roof...
The reason why Australian Mazdas dont come with certain options is that we of Australia number 20 million and in USA you have over 200million. They get more options because more people end up buying the options as compared with Australia.

Also the reason why Mazda3 cant have a sunroof and other new cars can is because the extra 2 bars help give the upper section more support because of the lack of support between the front door and rear door. Take a close look at your car and notice that, the body is a one piece. when most cars have a vertical support seperating the front and rear doors on either side of your car. This was to compensate for the new design of the body. Mazda6 has the vertical brace so therefore it doesn't need the extra 2 horizontal supports in the roof in turn allowing a mazda6 to have a factory sunroof and the Mazda3 cannot because of the 3 horizontal supports in the roof.

Easy ..... :)
My suggestion is to put on the sunroof then adding some roll bar inside the car, then one can be safe as hell :D :D
G
roll bars???

hahahhahaha...

we'll strip the interior and put roll bars in!!!! Just so we can get a sunroof...

LOLZ...
