Well, if it does go through they better leave the channel lineup on xm unchanged. There are a number of stations on xm that sirius did not offer that made me choose xm. Drop them and they are going to drop more customers. They are pushing that digital radio around here but I imagine it is just like regular radio and you drive out of signal range pretty quickly.

Who knows what will stay and what will go. We may end up with 200+ stations. But Where will you turn to if they drop some of your favs. Not to many other options out there.

Sirius has lots that XM doesn't too. I'm sure getting rid of some from either would piss off both sets of listeners.

Some of the reports I've read alluded to lower subscription prices if the merger goes through but I'm not sure that would happen. Either way I sure hope it does something to the goddamned stock prices!

XM sent me a e-mail today. Said they would have better station selection and so on. The disclaimer was longer than the actual letter though.

Well, I heard one of the muckety mucks from one of the channels talking about this today, and the way he put it was.....

If a customer wanted the content of XM and Sirius, it would run them approx. $26 per month. We will be aiming to provide us with combined programming for a lower rate. (granted, this is heavily paraphrased)

Now, based on that statement, it sounds to me like we may need to get out the Vaseline, cause rates are going to go up.

That being said, as a happy XM subscriber, I am looking forward to getting some of the Sirius music channels. Whenever I am in a vehicle with Sirius, I am always happy with the Octane channel, and have yet to tune away from it when listening to it. On XM when I am listening to music, I am always having to bounce around the 41-49 channels trying to find music that I like.

Since this is supposedly going to be a 50-50 merger (or as close to it as they could get), channels/content/talent are going to be dropped from both platforms, period. Otherwise, there is no reason for the merger. Why join to save money and then have each side of the merger continue to spend as much money as they did prior to the merger. That is why both XM and Sirius are currently not making money. Their hope is by consolidation and elimination of redundant content, they will be able to save money.

more channels! but other than that it will be bad witht he consumer. Thats just one of the reasons. When there is no competion to drive the companies, the rest on their laurels. We will tend to see less hardware innovation, higher prices, less content. Its really to early to tell right now. It all comes down to the FCC and fed govt passing this. I just can't see how they are going to pass it?
