should i get a CAI?

im coming from a heavily modded GTI 1.8 turbo and i wouldn't mind getting one but when i bought the car i told myself that i wouldn't modify this thing because being in california its really tough to get smoged. they actually hook up the car to a dyno and run it under load to see if its producing excessive pollutants. i also do not want to deal with the annoying CEL, the GTI had a full TB exhaust, intake, and blow off valve and when i traded it in the dash board was lit up like a christmas tree with the CEL, air bag light and the low windshield coolant light, thank the good lord that the salesman didn't see it. im also not sure how the warranty works with the intake, i know its green or some color but does this mean my motor is now under warrantee for 12,00 miles instead of the factory spec'd warranty? i really miss the hiss/woosh sound of the GTI and wouldn't mind leaning it out a little as well. my main concerns are how the warranty will work and if it will throw a CEL, i will get on this current GB if you can sway me.

All I can say is, the MS CAI works. I put one on and the car came alive and it's CARB approved.

I know what you mean about keeping it stock and not going crazy modding the hell out of it. But this CAI and the RP is great for now. The only noise increase you get is from the intake, blowoff valve and turbo spool. The exhaust is the same as stock, pretty much. There's no ricer rasp to call Johnny Law.

I don't know if a 3.5 IC will make as much HP as these 2 mods did. All I know is the car is like a go-kart on steroids, with A/C.......
what does carb approved mean in california terrms, anyone know?
It means you pass inspection, and that the cai does increase the carbon output of the car.
all's i know is that he GTI would not pass the initial visiual inspection due to the CEL.
Neither the MS CAI or the CPE CAI has been giving CELS.
California Air Resource Board. Which means it's ok in California, I think. If you miss that intake sound then you should just get one, I love mine (MSP).
ok what about the color of waranty, will my drivetrain still be covered for the manufactorors specified warranty or will it be cut short to 12,000 miles or whatever the color specifies?

the cai does not affect the powertrain warranty
