So I've tried out a dash kit from ebay, and it looks terrible. The top of the kit fits mmm ok, but the bottom of it hangs over the climate control consol.

My request is for someone to modify a junk stock Mazda 3 stereo HU for a single din deck to fit inside of it.

For instance cutting out a hole in the radio, or ripping off the face of the radio and making that a dash kit. Does that sound clear? Its hard to word.

But im putting out a challenge because I'm not that handy with this sort of thing, so if someone does it and it looks like i think it will look, which is amazing, then we should post a tutorial for it.

Just an idea that came to mind.

Umm... there's an awful lot of buttons on the stock HU that would be non-functional once you put an aftermarket deck in... I'm not sure this would be possible, and I AM sure that it would look awful. Doubt you'll find any takers.

If it helps... both the Scoche and Metra dash kits fit quite nicely. Look them up.

^ Agreed. It would be a pain in the ass to separate the stock radio from the faceplate, and then to remove and patch all the non-functioning buttons. You could leave the buttons in place, but I think that would look bad. I've got the Metra kit in my car, modified for a Double DIN fit, and it looks fine.
