Just as the title states, I want to remove the Sirius unit for several reasons:

1. I'd rather have XM cuz I'm an O & A pest.
2. I'd rather be able to acutally use my Aux input...
3. It's annoying to toggle through sources and have to go through three Sirius preset banks.

I basically just need to know where the unit is located, where its connected, and what happens to the stock head unit when its unplugged... Also, will unhooking it void my warranty?

Any info that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Unit itself if installed by factory/service techs is behind the trim on the pass side rear hatch area in a 5door. It plugs to the back of your radio reciever. Nothing happens to the radio if its unpluged. No you dont void warraqnty by removing it (other than on the Sat reciever itself)

Thank you for help.

If I were to unplug the Sirius unit from the radio receiver, how would I go about reconnecting the Aux input (ACI??) ? My main concern here is to get back the function of the Aux input.

And as of right now, I am not interested in selling the Sirius unit, sorry.

You can get a new one on ebay for $150 + $20 shipping. Search on "sirius mazda".

Well that merger may or may not be approved by the government. I'm a current Sirius subscriber and have an aftermarket radio. If the merger does go through they have said that all existing radios will still work with the combined XM/Sirius programming so buying the OEM sirius is not really a risk at this point.

Nice... So I bought a cheap XM unit (like $35 at Target, on clearance) and I'm going to temporarily intstall it so that I can listen to XM while I save for a Garmin Streetpilot unit w/XM...

One minor problem... the AUX input doesn't work because of the OEM Sirius unit. Now, I know I don't want to completely remove the Sirius unit (who knows what'll happen with the merger and all), but I'm thinking I can just unplug it from the back of the OEM head unit...

Is that all I have to do to get the Aux to work again? Or is there more that I don't know about yet?

Sometimes you just gotta be brave...

I took the plunge into my brand new car, was extra careful and all paid off.

I got the OEM head unit out, unplugged the Sirius Connection, and found the AUX input connection and plugged that back in.

Easy as pie. A little patience and a little time (seriously, like 20 mins...) and all is right with the world.

Now, about that AUX line noise... [walks off to SEARCH]

Thanks, Arch. I went this route and only hope that it will eliminate most of the noise. I'd be fine with little-to-no static or interference, but what its doing now is RIDICULOUS.

I've got the XM unit in, and the antenna wire run. I need to hit up Radio Shack for some wire to extend the power cable (I'm going to use the secondary 12V source in the center console, and then hide all the wire), and then all I need is the ground loop iso. and a 10' cable, and I'm good to go...

Thanks again.

Happy to help, and not to worry, man. It'll be 100% fine with the GLI plugged into the mix. :D

RadioShack has the isolator for 17 bucks.

Ah yes, this is true. And I was there tonight (didn't think about the extra wire for power), but there's only has RCA connections and comes with one Female-RCA-to-Male-1/8" converter.

So I stood there and thought to myself how to convert... The line would have been like this...

[XM UNIT (1/8")]----[1/8" Female to Female]----[1/8"Male-to-RCA-Female]----[RCA GLI]----[RCA-Female-to-1/8"Male]----[Aux Input]

So as I was standing there figuring ^^^this^^^ all out, I realized that there a lot of conversions happening there, which could lead to the potenial loss of sound quality, and interference (not to mention this would've cost me about $40).

So I bought the Crutchfield dealy and my setup will now be...

[XM UNIT (1/8)]----[Crutchfield GLI]----[Aux Input]

Much easier to hide and keep clean... 'No brainer...

All you needed is this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...Cable+Type/Y-adapters&fbc=1&parentPage=family

But the Crutchfield one is cheaper but with shipping the RadioShack set up is a better deal. Although... there is tax, lol. As long as you get what you need.

Except that you need two of them,, because the GLI is RCA to RCA. And then you need two sets of RCA male-to-male cables to go from the GLI to the adapters.

Just go with the inline 1/8" GLI...

Yeah, that's what I went with. It should be here tomorrow (provided UPS leaves it for me while I'm at work, or I happen to catch the guy on my lunch hour). The rest of the unit is wired up and all the wires hidden. I've got the audio cable I need... It works pretty well, minus the line noise... we'll see...
