I don't know about the glove box handle, but with the steering wheel controls you do have the take the whole steering wheel apart. There are screws that hold them in from the back, and no way for them to just pop out. It's really not as hard as you would think to remove the steering wheel, and working with the airbag is not that scary as long as you work carefully. You should be able to get the controls off in only a few minutes.

Here's a guide to remove your steering wheel: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=45816.0
and this is a good discussion about the airbag: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=10760.0

I think silver on the controls would look awesome. Please take pics if you do this.

To remove the glove box latch you will have to seperate both haves of the glove box that is remove the inner shell from the outer shell. Once this is done you will have acces to the screws behind the the outer shell that hold the latch in. Idid it ..Be very carefull. I used a very sharp putty knife. I sharpened the front edge then I started from the back and very carefully split the glue bond between the halves. Only the outer edges are glued. Its not brain surgery just be carefull and don't be agressive when you pry the halves apart. Once your finished just use a super bond glue or equivalent, gently press both halves together and put a few c-clamps on 4 corners and let rest overnight. I did this, I asure you its feasible.
