how about this for an idea? put radar detectors in the autodim mirrors. that way they are completely invisible to cops but are mounted in the correct place.

Yeah, they are not legal in all states and they are legal in states where they are not legal in counties of that state.

I know a guy who drives a Porsche and his radar detector is integrated into his rearview mirror. However, radar detectors are prohibited in Ontario.

better yet just grow some balls and buy a regular one. My parents have one valentine one each and they are so good. If there illegal who cares when you hear it beep slow down so the cops dont pull you over and see it.

BTW...

I agree with your parents...they are brilliant...I said so.

The problem happens in goofy places like Virginia where they have detector detectors, sit on the side of the road, stop you, confiscate your detector then fine you for a lot of cash.

A trip to Virginia could cost you $1,000 in like 10 seconds flat.

On the plus side the V1 is invisible to VG2 detectors, on the bad side, their is a new one out that sees them all.

I believe it's legal to drive w/ them in CA.
Different States different laws. They're legal in BC;

I've used them to get out of tickets when I got pulled over because I knew the cop wasn't checking my speed.

Kinda stupid why they're illegal, because it doesn't prevent anything, it tells you ONCE a cop has your speed.

All a radar detector does is tell you that there's radar in the area, and how strong the signal is, and what type it is. The Valentine 1 will tell you where the signal is coming from, and how many signals there are.
Anyway, if you're using it correctly, there will be other cars in front of you getting hit with radar, giving you time to slow down.
If you're the one in front, hauling ass-shame on you. You deserve the ticket

It would not be in Mazda's best interest to install radar detectors in every car, or make them an option.

It would be like Mazda NA was encouraging drivers to speed. AND the cops would start targeting every new Mazda that they saw. :( Not a good idea.

I agree with you... only she didn't say make this a stock option, and I think its a great idea aftermarket. My radar detector has saved me a couple times, but is very annoying with the cord in the way and although i did get pulled over for something else i was so lucky that the cop was very forgiving in overlooking my tint and detector - he let me go w/just a warning.

i e-mailed the ppl with The Cheetah and this is what they had to say about a US model:
Joe,
Our current version is specifically for European frequencies. However, we are working on a model which would be suitable for use in the US and will be happy to email you when this is available. I cannot give you a final completion time for this at present but we are having a lot of interest from the US for the Cheetah design.
Thank you for your enquiry

Yeah, I didn't mean make it a stock option and wow this is an old thread. I just thought it was neat to see people hardwire their radar detectors into the autodim mirrors so no one knows it's around. Personally I don't even have a radar detector, they get in the way too much, but it's a neat idea 8)

^^ Yeah I had mine hard wired above the mirror in the dimpled area. It was up there for a good 5 months. Until it got super cold and my suction cups wouldn't hold it there any more. I should build a bracket to slide up under the head liner and bolt into the roof but my detector is dying... I'm just going to wait for tax time. V1 here I come.

The reason why I put that Mazda wouldn't do this is the fact that this is a "Suggestions for Mazda" thread. ;)

I once had an officer pull me over for not moving to the next lane when his partner had pulled someone over for speeding. And while he was talking to me he saw my radar detector. He asked "So what do you have that radar detector for" what do ya say in the situation. He told me I could plead the 5th, so I did.
