Protege 5 vs Mazda3

I was planning to buy a Protege 5 but it will be replaced soon by the Mazda 3. I am not so hot about buying a car that has not been on the local market for a while.

I know it's been on the market for a while in some other countries. Anybody can tip me about the differences between the 3 and the P5? Overall but particularly about its reliability on the long run?
