Yea, the guy at the dealership said that the CAI was the cause of the problem. He also said my sub might play into the electrical problems, but I smelled BS. Tried to get me to buy a new wiring harness for $2700 installed (no way), but I hope extending the wires will be the end of it, knock on wood. If it happens again, I might try to do it myself too.

Yeah if you extended the wires it should totally work. I had them pull some slack fom under the battery box last time as per a suggestion i read somewhere else on this forum. Its been great so far. I also had a broken motor mount so my motor was all over the place, it lasted through that too.

Good luck.

They told me that same thing with the wiring harness too. i was like hell no. I think they would have put a whole airbox in there too.

Hi everybody, I come to this forum looking for advise on a current problem I have on my Mazda 3. Mine is a 2006, 2.3L engine with AT transmission with almost 120K miles on it. I started to get similar symptoms to those from post # 721, I used to get the CEL on together with the AT light on briefly and it went away by itself for a while. Whenever I got the warning lights ON I was not able to retrieve any codes from the computer, whenever I read it, I always get an "E" from it which I think means an error. I continued driving the car until a major electrical issue took place last week. I came from work as usual and left the car at home, the very next morning when I started it, I got a "Christmas Tree" on the panel, the CEL was ON along with the AT and Power Assisted lights and the power steering seemed slight stiff from normal. When the car was shifted into Reverse, it shifted very hard and when placed in D, the car barely moved, it was like in 3rd. It showed the same symptoms like the AT was in "fail fix" mode. I tried several things like disconnecting the battery for a while and re-starting the car and after a while it worked OK and the AT and Power Assisted lights went away but the CEL remained there. I went over the street and drove the car as usual without any major issues, except at one point that it did like a down shift by itself that scared the hell out of me since I was driving in the highway and this was something I was not prepared for. The AT light came ON briefly while this lasted and went OFF again. When I arrived home I switched the engine OFF and let it rest for a while, but when starting the engine again, same lights are ON again with the same condition on the engine.

Did some search in Google and found some persons with similar reports and indicated that a new PCM solved the issue. I am currently looking for a PCM, but so far without any luck. Am I in the right track or some one else think the problem is somewhere else?

Please advise before I throw a lot of money on a new computer that may not fix the problem.

Thanks, luiso16 :(

Sorry for the bump guys!!

But just having a CEL issue as well.

I got my Simota CF SRI (v3 I think? The one off protephile..), in August 2009. I got a CEL February 2010 P2187, system too lean. I got it deleted and it didn't come back all summer. It however, came back November 2010, and has been intermittent ever since. Last week I bought and changed the Purge Solenoid Valve as many suggested and all was well until today, a CEL popped back up. I haven't gotten it scanned but most likely I would assume is the same one.

Any ideas? I remember during the install I was missing a little ring on the breather hose but the installer told me it should be fine (apparently the ring was just to keep the breather hose attached..). If anyone has a link to an online "manual" for the simota install I can point the part out. I don't think that would be it though but at teh same time just wanted to explore all options.

Any help would be appreciated guys...

i have a P2187 system too lean at idle CEL go on and off now and then. i've replaced the PCV valve and hose and also the MAF sensor 4k miles ago. i got a vacuum smoke test done by and modified imports shop, and found no leaks. the guy basically told me its just sucking in so much air that its ouside the stock ecu parameters and unless you can retune or fiddle with the ecu, itll always come on unless u revert to stock intake. the car runs fine, actually better than ever. its just a part of modifying that irks me...always having an engine light on and no way to tune the 04 3 S ecu :x

hope this helps with some of ur guys' problems.

Hey. Found the cause for my CEL going on. Turned out the battery was busy dieing. Charged it a few times and when doing that the CEL was reset due to the battery being disconnected. This weekend the battery died and had to get a new one. CEL hasn't come back on. Seems the loss of power pops up the CEL.

LUISO -- before you run out and buy a new PCM, first go to advanced auto parts or autozone and get the dtcs out of the pcm. A lot of times low voltage issues will cause rough shifting and other erratic behaviours similar to what you are experiencing. Also, a bad ground could lead to these issues as well. The only true way to determine if it is your PCM is to of course replace it with a known good one or put your suspect one in another car. THat's virtually impossible for us to do without help with the PATS (passive anti-theft system).
So, I'd try the obvious - check for codes. Even if the CEL goes away, you will always have any codes that have ever popped up stored in the memory of the pcm (just have to know where to look)
then check for a good battery - it may start ok, but may have a bad cell
check for good grounds, especially to the pcm

Good Luck!

Just thought I'd chime in. I had a CEL yesterday which started after a very rough start in the morning. After the engine smoothed out, I drove it to work and then to the dealer, they said that I had two codes, a P0455 and a pending P2404. They replaced the purge valve and the evap leak detection pump and all is well now. They weren't able to figure out why it started so rough, but it seemed to run and start fine after that.

PO300 - Multiple Cylinder Misfire or any misfire codes 301,302,303,304 should try this. I did it and it had a smoother cold start and completely fixed the po300. Stretch the coilpack springs until they poke out of the boot about a half or 3/4 of an inch, put dielectric grease on it, and carefully align it when you put it back on. It seems that the spring wires retracted slightly from changing the plugs and wasn't making a strong connection.

I joined this forum to research problems other Mazda3 owners are having... my 06 Mazda in back at the dealer for the 3rd time since the end of January for a repeated P0300 CEL. The plugs have been changed, but the light still persists. I would be inclined to think the sensor is faulty, but the engine is running too rough (not like it use to). The dealership cannot find the problem... like this is all in my head!! (Yes, I'm a girl) Cain, your suggestion will be relayed... has anyone done a leak down test for the valves? (recommendation by a former Nissan mech) Naturally, I have 4 payments left on this car, that I used to like a lot... at least I have an extended warranty, but that doesn't do much good if the dealer can't even figure out what is going on!!

Just got a CEL Code P2177 that came up on my way home. Is it possible that this was caused by watered down gas? Before I headed out I dropped by the corner Shell station for about $10 of gas as the light had just come on, then this comes on about an hour later on my way home. Any thoughts?

clean your MAF, let it dry completely before you put it back in, or you will fry it, how is your idle?

Throw some lucas fuel injector cleaner in as well.

I just finished cleaning and re-installing my filter on my CAI, unscrewed and unplugged the MAF from the intake pipe and brushed away the dirt that had collected on and around it, and re-installed it. Also undid the battery to reset the PCM, so tomorrow I'll be doing my driving cycle to restablish idle and all that good stuff and see if it come back. Also low on gas again so going to fill up entirely at a different station this time. Any other advice?

Well I took the air filter off and cleaned it as well as checked the MAF for any dirtiness and brushed away dirt from the connectors and such. I also reset the ECU and so far after 150+ miles of driving, the CEL hasn't come back on. Have also refilled the car with gas from a different station and no problems.
