I've been getting these errors repeatedly when I try to send a Private Message or reply to one. I haven't been able to replicate it in IE8 or Opera, but I think I'm going to switch to Opera for a few days and see if I can replicate it. It usually happens when I hit the "Preview" button first to proofread what I said, but it's happened without doing that as well.

I've gotten into the habit of highlighting and copying my response before I send it so I don't have to retype it--hitting "back" on the browser does not recover the information I wrote.

System specs:

Windows 7 Pro x64
FireFox 3.6 (Greasemonkey, Hyperwords, Speed Dial, 1-Click Weather) I'll disable the add-ons from this point forward to see if I can replicate it.

Guys:

Is this still occurring as of 3/14?
[/quote]

I haven't been able to replicate it in Opera at all.

What about any other browser?

Alright, I just tested all of my available browsers:

Opera 10.5:  OK.
FireFox 3.6:  ERROR.
FireFox 3.6 w/all extensions disabled:  ERROR.
Chrome:  OK.
IE8:  OK.
IE7:  OK.
IE6:  OK.

OS is Windows 7 Professional x64.

It has happened at the computer lab of my university as well; all of their systems run FireFox 3.5 on Windows XP Professional x86.  It's not my system or my network.  Looks like a FireFox bug.  I'll play around with my FireFox configuration, seems like a timeout issue.

EDIT: The PM system doesn't use SSL or anything does it?

Alright, I think I found a working solution.

Changed the following in about:config:

network.http.keep-alive.timeout value from 115 to 215
network.proxy.failover_timeout value from 1800 to 2800

May not need to mess with the proxy value, but I figured what the hell. So far so good.

EDIT: Alright, that only works for about 30-45 seconds. If I leave the composed PM open for any longer than that, it throws the error. So basically, any time I need to write a PM that takes longer than 30-45 seconds, then it will throw the error. Very odd considering the timeout values on Firefox have an effect, but the server is still timing out the session for the PM.

Do PMs get any special session restrictions or encryption? This never happens when I post in a thread.

Well, I guess I'm not going to get a response. Good thing I've ditched Firefox, I guess.

This error is still occuring? Ugh.

We are working on a 3rd update to the software (it's in testing now). Hopefully that will help.

We've issued a couple of point releases in the past couple weeks (v2.0 RC1 => 2.0 RC1-1 => 2.0 RC1.2) but we're working on a much more major release now. I'm hopeful that will fix it, because it involves a major reworking of the PM system.

Unfortunately I can't replicate this even on our current software with FF3.6 for Mac. I don't have a PC to test on, but I'll see what others say.

Well, I never used to have a problem with it. It all started once the site began having problems. Hopefully the updates you mentioned will remedy the situation. Right now, I'm a happy camper with Opera 10.5.

RC2 did not fix the error. However, I updated Firefox to version 3.6.2 and so far I have not had the error. Before, I was able to replicate it easily, but I can't make it happen now. We shall see. I am cautiously optimistic.
