While driving down the highway I felt the steering go hard , had a look at the dash thats when I saw the little steering indicator lighted up, tried to steer to the right side of the road but it was really hard - consulted the owners manual to see that it has to be taken to dealer.

Anyone else having this issue ?? dealer advised its a safety issue and has to get approval from MAZDA to replace the part. anyone got this simillar problem ?

StUpId8000 - No info on this recall anywhere !! not even at MAZDA :(

Carowen - I got the EDGE as a rental, how long have you been waiting for ? once I took mine to the dealer it worked fine as the tech took a spin around the block.. Im never gonna be content even if they replace the pump - it could get stuck at any moment....

Mine happened on monday as well, just got a call from my dealership and was told that they are on it and I just have to be patient because of the back order and I could hang on to the rental.

please let us know what you hear from your dealer....

nothing new yet :x :x :x

my father got ahold of the dealership and ripped them a new hole, we also contacted mazda headquarters directly and we both spoke to the manager i suppose. they keep saying itl be worked on shortly. but its a national recall on these steering pumps.

my cars been in the shop for two weeks so far.

You're seriously going to trade the car in because one part failed? All cars are susceptible to parts failure. Trading in because the power steering pump failed is silly and a waste of money.

Well, all I can say is, get used to buying new cars often if that's your approach to things.

Chances are this problem was NOT even Mazda's direct fault. This pump is probably made by a specialist manufacturer which makes parts for lots of different cars.

Several car companies require parts suppliers to cover the cost of warranty repairs. This gives the supplier more incentive to make sure that their production process, materials and engineering result in a good reliable part.
