As some of you may know, ive been looking for a local shop to powder coat my RX-8 wheels.

I figured id pass this info along to you all. I was doing extensive searches on the web, and found http://www.customcoaters.com

I was able to find a shop locally, and will be taking my wheels to them on Friday.

Anyway, hopefully this can help some of you out as well.

how long does it take to powdercoat? .. because across my school is the tech center where they have automotive collision repair and auto paint w/e over there and i'm sure they do powdercoats so would it be possible to drop the car at them and then pick it up by the time school is done 7-8 hours later

unfortunately, no. even if it were possible to powdercoat 4 wheels in that amount of time the shop will have other customers. the wheels have to be prepped before even being sprayed and then they have to be baked and allowed to cool off...

If the shop isnt busy and the wheels are prepped to go.... you can have them back in a few days.... when i had stuff coated (not wheels), i got them back in like 2 days... but these guys are good.

yeah.. its not bad.. cause to have them prep it and coat it... granted you are gonna drop 320 bones... but thats cheaper than buying a whole new set...

what are you planning on coating them? please dont say black ;)

Naw, black on a titanium grey imho doesnt look that great.. I just want them to be semi-glossy silver. Kind of like stock, but better hold up than the paint, plus there are a few paint scuffs in the wheels, so they should look clean when they are done.

i saw a nickle finish that looked really cool at the place that is by me.... the coating will be far superior to paint, its like the candy coating around an M&M... alot thicker and more durable... plus it goes on even... since its just powder... paint can run and get that orange peel affect if not painted right (with wet sanding and all that), plus you would have to put atleast 3 coats of clear on it if you painted

Check out the link that started this read and give a few shops a call..... I'm sure it might vary a bit from shop to shop, rim to rim.

look in your local yellow pages.... unless you are willing to have your stuff shipped someplace to get coated and then you dont know what it will look like for sure until you get it back.. kind of a crap shoot
