After a month of being car-less (well, I did have my in-law's '98 Nissan Altima), I finally have my own car again. Sent out a bunch of quote requests from the Mazda website to the SoCal dealerships. Everybody came back with MSRP except for Geno @ Thousand Oaks Mazda-Subaru, who offered $500 off MSRP. After trying unsuccessfully to get my local dealer (3 miles away) to match, my wife and I made the trip out to Thousand Oaks (~60 miles away) on Monday night at 7:30. The longest part of the trip was the drive, and everything went very smoothly with no surprises or hassles. Picked up my Cosmic Blue Mazdaspeed3 GT with 12 miles on it. Breakin is going very slowly...only 193 miles on it now. I'll have to find a nice drive to do this weekend. Anyway, here's some pics.

Congrats! I've talked to Geno there at TO Mazda a couple of times...did my first test drive there. Seems like a decent dealership. Any details on the overall experience? Did you deal with their financing? How long did it take? etc etc.

Welcome to the forums JP and repeated congratulations on your model and color. I was driving an Altima before I bought my 3, lol (I killed my 240sx) and I actually liked it, except for the poor handling.

My situation may have been a bit atypical, and perhaps that's why it went so quickly and smoothly. It was an all cash deal with no trade-in. Geno offered $500 off MSRP up front, and with other dealers offering MSRP, I didn't feel the need to haggle on price. There's no way that I would ever pay over MSRP for any car, but with a limited production number, I feel that anything below MSRP is a good thing. I called him at about 6:30PM last Monday to tell him that I wanted the car, with the intention of driving over that Thursday. My wife got home about 7:15 and we decided to go then. Called Geno, let him know, got to the dealership by 8:30PM. Went to take a look at the car and sign some paperwork which he had already begun to fill out with information that I gave him over the phone while we were driving there. Took the car out on a quick test drive, came back, signed the check and the purchase contract then went over the requisite new owner stuff for a couple minutes. Finished all that up by about 9:30PM. I'm sure that it could have been faster, but nobody (including me) was in a real big hurry. Great experience overall.
